Great.
Channel 4 F1 twitter account have ruined the race for anyone waiting to watch it for the first time!

Anyone avoiding the result would not be on Twitter.

I've been so keen to see more tire compounds in the mix, opening it up to three creates so many more tactical options. We potentially could be looking at a really great season here.

On the F1 app in previous years they didn't put any news on the homepage when you launch the app so you could download the live timing data without being spoilt. This year they've changed it so the main headlines are plastered all over it. So it's impossible to use the on demand feature without knowing the result first

Sorry but I couldn't see quali live on Saturday and so I deliberately made sure I avoided any site that might even hint at what happened. That meant ignoring Twitter for a few extra hours, which wasn't the end of the world. Nobody can complain, because if you have any common sense, you won't look at any sites that might hint at what happened. Anyone who does go on Twitter or any other site that might tell them what happened if they don't want to know gets no sympathy from me.

At least we now know Fernando's IP address, subnet and router details with the EICU and TV cabling being exposed with the FIA's inspection sticker.

Maybe the controversy from yesterday will get it a bit more attention. Possibly even there might be an effect if the news channels are running with footage from the Alonso crash, people might decide to watch the race after lunch.”

I think it's important to point out with ratings that C4 are not going to expect them to be as high as they were on the BBC. BBC 1 will pick up more casual viewers just because it is the first channel and normally if you just scroll through your EPG/TV magazine it's the first thing you see and therefore you have the greatest chance of people choosing to watch it. This is probably best illustrated by those figures being in line with what happened on BBC 2 in 2012 and 2014.

But there is some very positive news for C4 there, they won the time slot which is very important and quite unusual for them to do. They peaked with 1.768m which is impressive for them and I'm sure is about what they were hoping for. Also it is above the slot average, so C4 succeeded- yesterday at least- in getting more viewers in for Saturday/Sunday afternoons where they tend to struggle against the competition.

The real test will come today as a lot of their promotion centred around this afternoon's action, although they are up against a stellar line-up of football this afternoon but hopefully it won't affect them too much as the football is on Sky and thus pay-per-view.

Also, forgot to mention Alonso in my post earlier, have to be very thankful he's fine. I felt sick as the camera panned away from the Haas car to show the pile of carbon fibre that was wedged into the barrier, was very relieved- along with everyone else- when he crawled out of the car.

If they really want to make F1 interesting to watch they should consider some sort of handicapping system. I'm completely uninterested in watching the procession that is the current F1.

What im missing is the highlights package online in 5/7mins. The BBC website was great for that and how to catch up on a race.

Let's be honest. Most of the action people get excited about is fake. It's either tyre life related or DRS related.

You can't really naturally overtake as the areo makes this near impossible.

Maybe Lewis should use his piano to learn a Justin Beiber song or two, then the transformation would be complete!

Was a very good race today.

it seems the "Driver of the day" vote on F1's website isn't protected in anyway to prevent multiple-voting. Simply refresh the page and you can vote again... http://www.formula1.com/vote I despair sometimes, I really do.

Ch4 Highlights laps lost: only 9

Adverts at lap 6, rejoined at lap 9
Adverts at lap 19 (red flag) rejoined at lap 19 (restart) - interestingly the accident happened on lap 19, following which all cars completed that lap by driving into the pit lane. The complete safety car lap from pit lane out before the flying restart was also lap 19, and only changed over to lap 20 after the safety car came in and Vettel crossed the line. Was that right? Looks like the lap out was a formation lap rather than a yellow flag safety car lap.
Jumped from lap 23 to 27
Adverts at lap 39 rejoined at lap 39 ( no laps lost )
Jumped from lap 43 to 46
Jumped from lap 46 to 49

Channel 4 showing the podium interviews for a highlights race, that's new compared to the BBC.

IIRC I think they did when Eddie or DC did them, not when it was MB.

Edit, I think you're right, it must have been the live races I refer to.

Quite impressed with the C4 coverage so far. The adverts are a bit annoying but not the end of the world. Almost a full rerun of the race and the way they have packaged it so far has made it feel more like a rerun than a highlights package. The bbc did a good job with the highlights but it always had the feeling of a highlights program.

Ch 4 coverage was ok, but I'm not liking Steve Jones as the main presenter. He looks and sounds completely lost when they are talking about the ins and outs of the cars, strategies, teams etc. His eyes were positively glazing over during the interviews. Then he got excited when a car came out of the garage behind him! He seems to be asking the questions from a script. Sorry, but he is the weak link for the Ch4 coverage.

It's only the man's first race weekend, personally I thought he coped well. He probably is genuinely in awe of being in the pit lane around all the cars.

Something that C4 cut & didn't show in the post race coverage was the full speed replays of Alonso's crash that were shown during the red flag period.

Also has there been any confirmation on If C4 will be showing any of the extra feeds for there live weekends?

I'm NOT liking the stupid hashtags, I felt distinctly uncomfortable when #sundaydrivers came up showing a crash which could have seriously injured Alonso, it felt wrong and I hope they get rid of it.

Agreed, thought that was stupid.

Seeing as it was a highlights show, Channel 4 would have already know Alonso was fine after the accident.

I very much doubt they would have shown the #sundaydrivers if there had been any injuries or worse in that accident.

Really impressed with the F1 coverage debut for Channel 4.

Steve Jones needs time to settle in to the role.

Bonus of advert breaks allow people time to make a quick cuppa / grab a snack / toilet break.

Also great to watch F1 on free to air & not have Suzi Perry spoiling it.

Lets see how the next race goes as that one is LIVE on Channel 4.
