So what if you are 5 minutes behind? Bizarre.

I waited until the show was available on All4 last night (around 7pm) and my only criticisms are the quality of the picture and the positioning of the ad breaks.

It definitely wasn't available in HD (at least, not on TalkTalk) and even the SD picture seemed to be of low quality. I've a decent broadband connection and other on demand services don't seem as bad.

Plus, the ad breaks seemed to pop up in odd places, in some cases DC and BE would be mid sentence when the ads came in. I'm assuming that this is the way C4 add in the commercials when you're watching on demand, I don't think the programmes are shown in the same way they are originally broadcast (and you can't fast forward through the ads either!)

On a side note, I thought Mark Webber was good though I get the impression he was royally brassed off after Vettel poured champagne all over him!

Overall though, not bad coverage, let's hope the live shows go well for them.

On live races you need to be live if you also want to follow the race using the live timing. On highlights not an issue.

After the debacle of qualifying the coverage was ok though as has been said the adverts did appear as if at random but it was highlights. Steve Jones did a good job but the really bad news is EJ will be on.

Yes I know, but if you're making the effort to watch it live, like getting up at 4am, you want to feel like you're watching it as it happens and not 5 minutes later.

I'm not going to defend it. Just saying that's what I used to do in the ITV days and catching up through the ads was one of the novelties of Sky+ at the time.

Channel 4 seemed to use Mark's podium interviews with the top 3 in luei of catching up with them after the race like the BBC used to do, usually you'd have Suzi, DC and sometimes Eddie standing in the pits after the team photos catching up with the race winner and Lee talking to finishers 2 and 3 in the pen, didn't happen here.
Looks like Sky Sports have tightened the locks On Demand as none of features that used to be accessible to non Sports subscribers, Paddock Uncut, Ted's Notebook, F1 show, F1 Report Race Highlights and even occasionally a full rerun are not available now. I've mentioned before how some of that content is available free on other platforms but still a shame. Wonder if that stuff will be put into the Mix when that's launched.

Actually from the app you can delay the live timing as much you like. Unless you're talking about the data (video) feed.

I don't believe All4 (or 4OD) has ever been in HD. Which is frankly weird - it's 2016 people.

Ta, yes I remember someone saying that but I am the sort to pay for an app like that. If I get to watch live I may run the live timing screen or I may not depending how I feel and if there is a battle going on that is getting little screen coverage.

Which one of you PC knee-jerks misinterpreted my observation about our FTA broadcaster and got me banned over the weekend?

Sheesh..

Something I meant to mention yesterday is that as is the case with the world feed graphics the engine brand has now been removed from the OnBoard-Mix graphics set despite been there during FP1/FP2:

16-34 is the most important audience these days to anyone but the BBC, So they be happy.

I believe on All4 the adverts are added in separately (including the sponsor advert) but the titles going into and back out of the breaks (the bits with this dubstep music) are part of the main video track, so if you saw the titles immediately before and after the adverts, they were in the same place as on the broadcast.

I bet its because they can't fit "Red Bull Racing TAG Heuer" into the graphic box so rather than fix it or abbreviate it they take the easy option and just not put any engine names their. Totally pathetic and cheapskate by FOM!

Would make a lot of sense. It's somewhat squashed on this Constructors championship graphic: http://imgur.com/cNXlEE1

Wait, what? What do you expect them to do? Make all the graphics bigger?

FOM do have form with slack housekeeping when it comes to the TV graphics at the start of seasons. 1999 saw a single tyre supplier which made the tyre brand graphic we got used to throughout 97-98 obsolete. However first race, it was still their - minus any lettering in it!

2000 - a continuation of the familiar Black & Yellow terrestrial feed graphics, but the way they worked was slightly different, BUT with another glitch, the familiar blue oval containing the car number was waaaay over to the right of the screen, again rather than fix it by easily realigning back over to the left, they just did away with it altogether, until 2001 when they repositioned it to the left of the driver / team name

Maybe either abbreviate Red Bull Racing to "RBR" like they did years ago or just leave off Red Bulls "TAG Heuer" engine brand, and show other teams engine brands. Just smacks of laziness to leave out other details due to just one anomaly.

Dropping one team's engine name but keeping the rest would be very inconsistent. It would also potentially cause suspicious-minded viewers think they were against TAG Heuer in some way.

I would have guessed it would be general Bernie/FOM engine politics rather than specifically a "we can't fit one of the names in" situation (it does look to me like there's space to fit "Red Bull Racing Tag Heuer" in).

But I'm cynical like that.

I still can't work out if FOM deliberately sped up the 'real-time' replays of the Alonso crash. They just looked ever so slightly unnatural to me. Not sure what others think.

I thought exactly the same when I had a second look yesterday, just slightly unnaturally fast. Based not just on the tumbling McLaren but the movement of the camera. I'd guess though it was just a mistake if they did play it too fast.

I do wish FOM would play full-speed replays more often generally though; the slow-mo's are good, but to get a full sense of why a driver got caught out there's no substitute for a full-speed replay.

That's my theory as well.

The speed of the replay seems about right when compared to this fan video from trackside:

No, it never has and they have no plans for it to be as such
