To be fair to the DS moderators, I'm not sure that a nuanced point regarding the optics of taking a presenter halfway around the word & giving them 10 seconds of audio-only airtime to pass on someone else's thoughts on a Q2 target time is going to work particularly well on a forum that gets most of its traffic from reality shows and soap operas, especially when it's framed in a way that appears to be very offensive at first glance.

During the race the data channel looks like this:
http://i.imgur.com/d9N6KLI.jpg All the gap to leader/car infront information on the left side updates in real time. I would love to see sky take that rather than the standard timing feed. |

Re. the engine names - I'm pretty sure that FOM could just extend the graphic to accomodate Tag Heuer? Or why not just persuade Red Bull to let them use Red Bull Racing-Tag?
Wasn't it in 2013 or 2014 where the on the driver's name graphics (I think) the actual graphic was stupidly long and the driver's number was Left-aligned yet the name was right-aligned, so there'd be a massive (and uneven, if the driver's name was short) gap between the number & the drivers name? Crazy... |

Final highlights loop from the highlights channel:
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3z...-channel_sport Also something that showed up on the pits channel which I don't recall been shown on the world-feed was a helmet camera on one of the Williams pit crew: http://i.imgur.com/dEBb4VK.jpg http://i.imgur.com/4H4RZbp.jpg http://i.imgur.com/CwdwmAw.jpg Finally this brief frozen image from one of Sky's OnBoard feeds during FP1 was the only time a non T-cam OnBoard shot was shown over the weekend: http://i.imgur.com/SA7B2tQ.jpg I did see a few cars carrying cameras in other locations (Ricciardo had a mirror-cam as well as a forward facing shot on the nose & Rosberg/Raikkonen had rear facing nose cameras while Vettel & Hamilton had forward facing nose cameras) but for whatever reason FOM never used them. |

On the cameras, it is embarrasing watching the breakup on the onboard cameras. You would think FOM with all of their experience would be able to do better, especially when other series manage it.

I was reminded by the Ex-fom guy over at F1fanatics earlier that when they moved from the analog heli-link to the digital ground based setup in late 2005 they had similar early teething trouble which was resolved within a handful of races as they found out where best to place the trackside nodes & how far apart to locate them to minimize signal drops etc... He/she seemed pretty sure than over the next 2-3 races things should get a lot more stable & that by Mid-season we should be seeing hardly any. They also said that Melbourne has always been a circuit that caused problems with the OnBoards & that even when they had the fiber-optic ring system there in 2001/2002/2004 they still suffered from more signals drops at Melbourne than they did at most other circuits. Given how bad an issue it was at Melbourne I certainly can't see it getting any worse.... I hope. They couldn't even play out the pole lap on the world-feed post qualifying as they usually would because of how bad the break-up was. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GuMb58fk0Ng Speaking of OnBoards, Anyone know what the most was that sky had on the ipad app over the weekend? |

Bernie's view is that we're lucky to even have those few onboards let alone other angles lol |

First of all, I can't believe one of our best contributors got a ban for a clearly satirical and not-at-all-literal comment. This forum certainly has lost some of its joie de vivre, that's for sure.
Anyway glad jp is back and hopefully he gets out of Brussels tomorrow or Friday. Reason I wanted to post (other than saying I thought the C4 coverage got off to a sensational beginning and I am looking forward to their first live race in 10 days' time) was that I don't believe anyone has praised the incredible camera work of the FOM cameraman to capture Alonso's crash from that position in the fence. Obviously, we can make such a trivial observation from the position of comfort afforded by knowing that Fernando was okay, but that was incredible - I would say the shot is pretty much impeccably framed which is incredible knowing how fast he flew by the camera position. Amazing work. |

Coverage of FP1 and FP2 on the main C4 channel on Friday next week. Presumably with ads so may stick with the 5 Live commentary (although their Australian FP coverage was certainly below par with what seemed like their third team on the job). Will listen to 5 Live while at work then watch the C4 coverage in the evening though ...
... is it me or are there a hell of a lot more weekends with F1 / MotoGP clashes this year? At least I won't have to fit the 6 Nations rugby in as well next time. Edit: Corrected as advised for the correct Friday. |

Andrew Berry was the Camera chaps name, a Melbourne native as well! Not sure if he is FOM or just brought in by them for the weekend as I don't know how all that works but credit where credit is due! Jeez, just for a second there it was like old times!

They bought Heuer and added the TAG prefix. They later sold it on, but it remained as TAG-Heuer. So while some are saying "the TAG name is back in F1" is sort of is and isn't. Think of this along the same lines as the Lotus name returning. Only with less bickering.
