Well today is a decent day of motorsport that you can watch for free in the UK.

BTCC - now on ITV4 and looking like a cracking season ahead.

TCR - race 2 around 12.30

F1 - this afternoon ...however that is an unknown how good it could be.

See the BTCC is on all day again with a lot of support races. Did not know that was on so thanks.
The same itv team it looks like as last year, a really good team in my view and all their extras around the sport are so so interesting and none of our often F1 video snippet nonsense.
Not seen any promotion of this from itv anywhere, shame as it can provide so much good racing and coverage. Pity too about clashing a few times during the year with F1, but suppose thats not easy. But they do not seem to make much use of the BH that I remember they used too, when I used to attend some races in the lates 1990s.

Watched the TCR last night on Motors TV and its on again delayed live today.
Quite tame compared to BTCC, not sure touring cars are really suited to such a track as Bahrain.

Yes I was surprised ITV didn't plug it more on ITV4. Maybe they just think most of the motor sport audience know it will be starting.

I guess social media is one of the big pulling power tools these days and ITV have used that I notice quite a bit.

Just think with all these cars and the rules as they are in the BTCC, this is going to make for a cracking season. Honda will clearly start well, but watch all the rest cone back towards them as the season keeps going.

Race 1 now live for anyone interested.

ITV4 or ITV.com and watch online.

That wasn't great seeing a marshal on a live track in the BTCC, bit close that...

On a broadcasting note I wish they'd stop using graphics for the start lights, they always lag so they're basically pointless.

A good set of regs that encourage a diverse range of machinery with close performance.

Race formats designed to create excitement for the paying punter and those watching at home.

A broadcaster that is heavily involved with the race day structure, devoting plenty of time to the whole day's racing and not just the primary series.

Drivers of similar skill levels, both young and old with long-established rivalries.

Two commentators who are passionate about the series (this works both for Addison and Harvey as well as Titchmarsh and Hyde).

A qualifying system that's simple and allows the fastest to be on pole, with a short enough amount of time to ensure that cars are on track for the vast majority of it.

Need any more?

Add MotoGP and WSB to the full day of motorsport.

Well that was a decent race and great to see an "out of the box" car winning that basically anyone can purchase if they want to take part. It really shows the benefits of having decent regulations that ensure its a fair playing field.

F1 qualifying fiasco continues with stalemate. Way beyond a joke now. The politics is killing the sport and making it a laughing stock.

These Ginetta jnrs are normally a great support race as well. I think the support package on the BTCC isn't bad at all which helps the whole series.

When you think we get an 8 hour programme, free-to-air, goodness knows how many races and a very competent production and commentary team it really is great what we get from the BTCC isn't it.

I'm pretty sure these guys know exactly the benefit of being FTA versus Pay too.

I wonder if it could end up rating higher than the F1 from 2019?

Well I think the teams and drivers are on the grid because of the TV coverage. I think it goes out in America as well now. Not sure if outer countries get the coverage as well?

Im not sure how it rates for ITV? Can't be that bad if they wanted the rights for such as long period? Suspect the BTCC could have sold to pay TV however seems to prefer FTA which is good for everyone.

Can't imagine who would have wanted it.

The Ginettas are all fun, exciting and close racing, enjoyed them last year.
But the Porsche cup is just not good, I'd say its a bore, always has been.

BTCC has always offered a mix of support races, its not new.

A vanity series really but helps pays the bills I guess. A good one to take your lunch break / pit walk on.

I suspect BT sport would have been interested.

F1 became a joke when the car makers were given too much influence. Those crappy engines need to go right now as does much of the electronics.

After 2 awful qualifying sessions they still can't agree on going back to the system that worked!

“The teams want a return to the 2015 format but the FIA and commercial rights holder FOM are not prepared to do that.

The FIA and FOM feel reverting to the old system would be more confusing for fans, though it is believed this view is not widely shared by the team bosses.”

Whats confusing for fans is the fact that they refuse to consider going back to what we had last year as just about everyone else seems to want to do!

Also FOM told Lewis to stop posting video's from the F1 paddock on his snapchat account.... He apparently refused.

Is this Bernie?

I love the engines. Naturally aspirated V8's are dinosaurs tbh. F1 should be leading the field in technology, not steadfastly sticking to obsolete engines... As it stands, the current engines are breaking V10-era lap records in qualifying now...

One party that does have too much influence IMO is the tyre supplier. I don't think Pirelli is good for the sport tbh. They seem pretty inflexible as a company, with regards to implementing changes from their original tyre characteristics.

Not all all. Pirelli is only doing what they've been asked to do by Ecclestone who wanted tyres that degrade and so cause extra pit stops. They can make any type of tyre requireed but they don't have the choice. Now we're stuck in a rut where drivers can't push hard because of tyre-saving, fuel-saving, engine-saving etc. Ideally we should go back to two tyre suppliers but that's not going to happen all the time the sport is fixated over costs and next to no testing. Everything in F1 is now so artificial thanks to incompetent meddling that's tried to fix symptoms of problems and not the root causes.
