Can someone tell me why the tyre graphic sometimes shows as a solid circle and sometimes as an outlined circle?

Solid means it is a new set of tires vs used.

Solid, new set of tyres, outlined tyres were used earlier in the weekend.

Sorry if off topic - But does the points of the deputy driver go to the driver he is replacing?

I don't think so, I think they are HIS Points.

Well done to C4 on the no-adverts thing - it was the death of the ITV coverage for me.

Would have been nice to have seen them do that on the Guy Martin "live" attempt earlier on in the week, though.

Thoroughly enjoyed the coverage, especially the chaotic double grid walk - but I'm now getting turned off by the politics and format behind the sport.

Just like Melbourne I really enjoyed that.

OK the fight for the lead/win wasn’t there but there was tons of great racing through the field for most of the race which made it thoroughly enjoyable

I thought that was a really good race, good coverage as well, BE and DC gave good commentary. Good all round.

Forget about the politics & just enjoy the racing. I turn the coverage on 5 mins before the start (at the FOM jingle), then turn it off after the podium interviews. It's unlikely any breaking news gets revealed so soon after the race, it usually happens a few days later.

I'd prefer it if the ads turn off at the 5 minutes intro but other than that good stuff.

It's only a single advert.

A good race overall, as for the Broadcasting side, happy to see the tyre graphics, with the filled in and clear circles working well. Also good to see the tyre stint lengths when comparing competing drivers.

Personally I'm more than happy with the compromise of having that advert break just before the formation lap.
I actually thought they were going to miss part of the formation lap, and while in an ideal world there wouldn't be any adverts, we have to appreciate this is a channel which makes it money from selling adverts.
I was prepared to lose the formation lap for no other adverts during the actual race.

Yes I know we had a little drama with Vettel dropping out, but how many times int he past has there been drama on the formation lap?

I could see them doing that. Of course they didn't, so this entire post is irrelevant.

Enjoy the C4 production, their output is good.

Why they employed Steve Jones baffles me though, he's has flopped in every presenting job he has done and come across as rather platitude touting. Not sure who irritates me more him or the Sky main presenter. If they wanted a Welsh presenter then Gethin Jones would have been a better option.

Glad they have DC, and his double act on the grid walk with Mark Webber was a good idea and worked well ..... both have the respect of the drivers.

Toto Wolffe got irritated with Steve Jones in their interview there, don't think he understood the term 'off the hook'.

Absolutely. If we'd gone straight from ITV to Channel 4, everyone would be praising C4 for running ad-free from the lights going green on the formation lap to the winning driver being out of his car and celebrating with his team.

We missed championship deciding on-track moments in the ITV years. Missing part of the post race driver chat (which in any case is a lot less interesting now they're aware of the cameras) pales into insignificance.

Gethin would be too earnest & enthusiastic IMO, a bit like Jake.

No, the F1 points system doesnt work like that.

Drivers earn & keep there own championship points.

It'll be interesting to know the live viewing figures for this on C4, and wonder how much advertising they COULD have sold.

I doubt they'll read this, but just in case - Thank you C4 for showing Advert free.

Lets face it, they have us over a barrel. Those who don't have Sky have no other option to watch, so (in my opinion) this is MAJOR of a broadcaster to do this, and I think it does need applauding.

Sorry for sounding like a C4 fan-boy/marketing person/PR guy. I'm not.

There were some messed up graphics during that race, showing the wrong tyre for what the driver was actually on, need to sort that.

Susie Wolff was so quiet there was no point her being there, couldn't hear what she was saying. Steve Jones is starting to annoy me also, he just seems to take it all as a joke, not serious enough. I also didn't like the double grid walk, just seemed like an idea to get Webber on more, DC is perfectly competent on his own.

Decent race overall.

I think given all the contact the drivers must have been watching touring cars, thinking it's one way to spice it up!

In fairness it wasn't as bad as I feared. Think we have to remember a lot of the passing is fake with either DRS or tyre related. There isn't much real genuine passing, but that's been the problem with F1 for years. It's becoming more gimmick based and seems it's heading for a sport that will quickly lose its core market.

With so much politics in F1 I'd have given the anchor job to Jeremy Paxman. Imagine the interviews...

Rather aggressive closing montage by Channel 4, clearly they aren't too happy about the Sky deal, or at least realise they have nothing to lose! Picking 'Freedom' as the song in Bahrain, then using the lyrics to suggest Bernie is the King and Jean is 'Dumb'

Thought the race overall was decent, rather like qualifying a bit front loaded.

I guess the news could mean the end (or at least suspension) of BE's F1 broadcasting career, so best enjoy it while we can.

That was a fault of the timing system itself, not the graphics, because the wrong tyre (for Bottas & Massa on their first stint only) was what was being shown on the online live timing data too.
