The Aggregate single lap system was a terrible idea 11-12 years ago. Garbage idea now too.

Glad to see that the teams have rejected the aggregate qualifying proposal. However that'll probably mean we'll get the hybrid 2015/2016 format, whereby Q3 is run to 2015 rules. Hopefully for Q1 & Q2 will be tweaked to let the driver finish the lap he's on even if his 90sec slot runs out.
We're stuck with what we've got at the moment for the foreseeable.
The teams want to go back to the 2015 format, but FIA/FOM say that's not an option.

So until someone backs down we'll be stuck with the elimination system as it's been run in Australia and Bahrain.

Ben & Jerry have backed down, looks like they're going to the 2015 format:
n light of that unanimous stance, it became clear that the FIA had a choice of either standing firm and leaving the sport unable to change elimination qualifying, or agreeing to what the teams wanted.

In the end sources suggest that following discussions between Jean Todt and Bernie Ecclestone, it was agreed that the only sensible solution would be to go back to the 2015 rules.

An official process will now begin for the rule changes to be put through the F1 Strategy Group and F1 Commission, so the changes can be ratified by the FIA's World Motor Sport Council.

This should be able to get completed before the Chinese GP.

Not if they're based on racial stereotypes, I don't. But Ben & Jerry is a reference to the ice cream makers, of which Bernie & Jean share the same initials. Anyway, i've been told to 'lighten up' (or words to that effect) on such issues, so that was me lightening up.

Seriously though, Jean should really re-activate FISA to handle the FIA's motorsport activities.

Lets hope the World Motor Sport Council agree and vote for the change.
Bernie and Jean could still change their mind before then, but the fans/teams/broadcasters have all been singing from the same hymn sheet about this issue so if they throw another curve ball it will destroy the sport and make those 2 look like vindictive.

Expect change next year when it doesn't require 100% backing but at least Quali this year should be more enjoyable to watch.

Glad that wiser heads have prevailed, but to be honest somewhat surprised that they gave in. It was rapidly escalating from a debate about qualifying format to a a battle over who calls the shots in F1.

I was expecting FIA/FOM to dig their heals in rather than be seen to give in to the teams demands.

Still, maybe we can get back to talking about the actual sport now rather than politics

Would be quite ironic if China qualifying turns out to be wet. I think that's the only way the knockout format would ever be consistently entertaining throughout the whole hour.

Was thinking the exact same when i saw the comment too!

As for 'racial stereotyping' - Please!!!
How is adapting someones name from Todt to Toad racial?!
Are we to see a 'Frog Lives Matter' movement next because of it? or can we perhaps take it as it is intended to, as frustration that there is a huge power-struggle here and this idiot is at the center of it!!!
Instead of going off to report comment after comment and making this thread a red-flag area, because im very close to packing it in with the silliness!

I have not reported a single post on here, ask a moderator & they'll confirm it. And I had assumed that Todt's nicknames were a reference to his nationality, that's all. If they weren't, then i'm sorry for mis-interpreting things.

But do you get the smell of campsite cooked bacon?

The 2016 Toyota TS050 is a V6 twin turbo hybrid, another quiet whooshing LMP1, so sadly won't be joining it's predecessor on your list.
"That is not noisy is it?"

I don't I'm afraid, all I get usually is the traffic!

Oh heck. I'm glad China is an early morning race then, means I have half a chance of being able to watch some/most of the rest of all that (in amongst a load of football). Would be nice if things were spread out just a little bit more so we didn't have near dead weekends followed by a weekend where pretty much every type of motorsport on the planet including U7s quad bike racing in Iran is taking place and on TV.

The IMSA sportscar race at Long Beach is at 3am on Sunday apparently. So probably one for the insomniacs.

I didn't mention a single name of any user on this thread.........
As for 'asking a mod' - just, wow!!

Shame no F1 this weekend to take the shine of the silliness but, atleast we (apparently) have 2015 quali back from China. Unless we get some idiotic change-of-mind from the FIA and FOM, again
