The radio coaching ban was a small step in the right direction. Now remove most of the sensors so the engineers don't have a clue either. Bingo, 1983 all over again!

Is that true? When we've had one team being able to do something innovative either it's been promptly banned (fan car) or once the legality has been established the other teams have copied it (double diffuser). I can't think of a time where there were ever significantly different cars of equal performance, except maybe when we had some cars with KERS and some not.

Chances are if it did happen certain cars would have a big advantage at some races, and the others at different races, which is often what happened with the tyre war. Might have made the championship closer, but the individual races were dull (though Damon Hill nearly winning for Arrows in Hungary was something special).

Even as recently as 2007/2008 (which weren't particularly open regs) you had Ferrari and McLaren with similar levels of performance but cars which worked better in different conditions and at different tracks. McLaren much better at mechanical grip, the Ferrari the best car aerodynamically.

97 was a really good season, the big problem was it was at the peak of overtaking being difficult (the Italian GP was an extraordinarily close race but no one could get past anyone else !), would have had a lot more classic races that season but for that.

Maybe even bring back the specialist qualifying tyre as well.”

I like the idea of bringing back a special Q tyre, but also how about Pirelli take 3 compound (plus wets and inters) to a trace but don't tell the teams which they'll be taking. The teams only find out on Fri morning at the start of FP1.
That'd throw a bit of as spanner in the works

I wonder if there was a split between them & the rest of the F1/Grand Prix Rejects website? I notice the new GPRejects website makes no mention of the podcast at all...

I know there was some stuff mentioned on there about trademarks, but that doesn't explain why all the articles were removed etc. & the podcast being totally spun off.

I think it's rather complicated, but I assume that Bernie's legal budgerigars were involved somehow, due to the use of 'F1'.

A post by 'Simtek' on this thread: http://gprejects.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7697
"F1 Rejects received a cease and desist order from FOM for the use of the 'F1' trademark, which meant the whole website had to be taken down. The forum still operated for a little while after that while Biscione set up a new website, the one you are looking at right now."

The original site was run by them. The new gprejects site and forum is run by devotees of the old site & podcast. Clearly the new site is a 'work in progress'. The site does have #MAKEHAASGREATAGAIN in the footer of each page.

If you go to the gprejects Forum, and then the 'The HWSNBN Memorial Forum', the third announcement down is about the latest Rejects podcast '160325 MAKE HAAS GREAT AGAIN EDITION'. http://gprejects.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7707

Further new ideas are expected.”

Potential for cost cutting. Fewer camera helicopters, fewer camera operators up on mobile cranes.

So they won't use railcams that go over the track anymore because of fears of incidents like this, but are happy to use Drones because of course this would never happen.

BTCC did it years ago.

Once, and never again. Which in fairness is a typical FOM approach on new technology

WRC have been using Drones this year after a successful trial last year.

Just a random question, what happened to the FOM cameramen having to wear helmets in the pitlane after Germany 2013? Whenever I see them on TV now they're not, so a tyre could easily hit them on the head.

I expressed this fear a couple of years ago after Echti posted pics of FOM testing drones at (i think) the Nurburgring, yet everyone else on here was like "Don't be silly, i'm sure they'll be fine... Great Idea" -_-

Surely Monza is one of the worst places to try out drones because of the trees and narrow track without much run off on the straights.

If it were Silverstone with huge run offs the drones could be restricted to flying over the run off areas and then there's little risk to either the cars or the crowd. Assuming that is nothing goes wrong.

WRC obviously has far more to gain.

I know that Sky have started having an ad break after the National Anthem. Have they also started with ad breaks between Q1/Q2 and Q2/Q3 as Ch4 do ?

I just saw this video posted around in response to the article talking about FOM using drones, One nearly hit a skier during an event last year :

Ad breaks between qualifying sessions I can see, but also during the race? Sky generally try not to infuriate their customers, which adverts during the race would surely do. The worst I could imagine is some sort of split screen where viewers can still watch the race with an ad at the same time.

Why? Unlike the celebrity's he actually knew what happened in the race, held firm when Vettel questioned his judgement about his front wing (he was right) and asked them about the relevant incidents in the race. What are you expecting from the interviews?

I agree its always best to have a TV reporter / commentator do the podium interviews. When this started, it tended to alternate between Sky and BBC. Jackie Stewart did the first ever one at Silverstone I think, but then he knows what he's on about. Some celebs do (Benedict Cumberpatch for example) but most clueless.

Thanks for update on Sky Ads. I agree ads in qualy will probably happen. Once Sky are exclusive, viewers won't be able to swap channels when ads come on. Even if there are no in-race ads, expect breaks closer to the race at both ends....

That's kind of true now. Half the races are exclusive, and for the other half if you swap to C4 inbetween qualy sessions you're only going to get different ads.

Sky's increase in ads is a little annoying. There were several times in the pre show where it was obvious from Simon Lazenby that we were about get a filler-montage followed by an ad break. In truth I'd mind it less if I could pause NowTV and catch up like I used to.

I would suspect the contract doesn't allow ads between the 5 minute board (World feed program start) and the Podium.
