I had read that Eastwood was supposedly Deathstroke, not sure if this gets hinted at in the film?

Nothing hinted at at all in regards to Deathstroke, though if he is to appear in the sequel, presumably to lead the team, with no other member from this movie returning for the sequel, I'll admit, that's DC showing they have balls.

But in all reality I suspect they have Will Smith and Margot Robbie signed on for at least 3 Suicide Squad sequels and spin offs...

Looking at how social media destroyed the Ghostbusters film, we won't be seeing a new attempt at female lead action films anytime soon, at least not a group of females.

Not quite action per se, but Ocean's 8 - a female take on Ocean's 11 - is already underway.

True, I hope people get on board with this as the cast so far is excellent but I fear for the worst.

I didn't feel this movie but enjoyed Harley and I liked Leto as the Joker, just a shame he was hardly in it. I hope like with BvS there is an extended cut planned.

It would like after Robert Downey Jr played Iron Man in the first Iron Man film and saying to him "Thank you for your services, you did a good job. But you are no longer required".

The problem with Ghostbusters wasn't female leads. Female leads are in loads of films. It's not a problem in itself.
Social media didn't destroy Ghostbusters, it just wasn't appealing enough to draw people in to watch it. Their campaigning seemed to encourage a feeling of divisiveness and hostility.

Harley Quinn was the leading female character in Suicide Squad, but I've read criticism about her from some of the same media outlets who sang the praises of Ghostbusters because she doesn't conform to some idealised vision of what they want and what they think people ought to like.

Harley Quinn if anything will ensure that there will continue to be female leads in action films as there has already been for as far back as I can remember.
I think people make the mistake of believing that Ghostbusters was some sort of seminal groundbreaking moment in cinema for female lead roles in film. It wasn't.
There is no need for films to 'attempt' to make action films with female leads. It's something which has already been established decades ago. What they need to attempt is to write good films and write good characters. It's not the fact that an actor is female which is in any way a problem. I don't know how some people have managed to lead themselves to believe that it is.

Wouldn't go at all that far. I mean, fair enough, Harley Quinn is a pretty major player in the Batverse and therefore it would make sense to have her in multiple movies, spanning across Suicide Squad, Gotham City Sirens and Batman.

But Deadshot? I'm not so sure. Suicide Squad sequels for sure just because it's Will Smith, but the whole depth of Deadshot as a character was pretty much explored entirely through this movie, so it would feel a bit.... unnecessary, unless he takes more a back seat in upcoming installments.

Well I was thinking more Harley Quinn than Deadshot. These films need strong characters so I think it would be a disastrous missed opportunity for WB to not capitalize on what they get right.

I tend to have preferred the Marvel superhero films more than the DC ones on the whole so far, but one area DC seem to have been stronger than Marvel is with stronger more memorable villains. Harley Quinn s a character I think they realise would be an opportunity pissed down the toilet if they didn't continue with the character.

DC do have other characters in their armoury they could capitalise on if they get them right. Catwoman and Poison Ivy are another two characters they could introduce and produce memorable characters with.

Ah right I get you now, yeah totally agreed, Harley Quinn is to me the one truly bright spark of this movie, so more of her can only be a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Particularly to see her interactions with a certain dark knight.

I do agree that DC have better villains, it harks back to the old comic book argument of who has the better villains and the answer is almost unequivocally "DC". Ironically, the major, major Marvel villains mostly can't actually be used in the MCU. Spider-Man's villains are the big ones and whilst a handful of them are going to be appearing in Homecoming (Shocker, Vulture, Tinkerer), the villains are still predominantly tied to Sony, so Marvel can't use them willy nilly.

Then there's also Magneto, Galactus and Doctor Doom which are all at FOX. Marvel have been left a bit high and dry in that regard.

But I agree with you that the DCCU really needs strong characters. The problem is that it almost seems like the film-makers don't truly care about these characters and I'll use Cavill's Superman as the prime example there, with Jessie Eisenberg's Lex Luthor being the 2nd. I just worry that unless the DCCU gets a new "showrunner", then they could have all the strong characters in the world, but it could just as well end up being missed opportunity after missed opportunity.

You also made a point that I made a while back that some of Marvel's best villains are tied up at other studios.
DC films have had Heath Leger's Joker and Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. Marvel lost Galactus to Fox studios. What a great opportunity to unveil such a powerful character. So how did Fox use him? Which actor did they get to play him? Oh, he's just some smoke in space.

Yes, he's just a bit of smoke.

To be fair Marvel do have Loki played wonderfully by Tom Hiddleston. Which is great, But mostly Marvel's villains in films seems to be CGI stuff and you don't usually tend to remember them as great characters. Or they are generic baddies which appear to be only there to serve a purpose for that particular story as the general purpose baddie.
The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 was an opportunity pissed down the toilet too. They had Ben Kingsley for Christ's sake and they completely wasted him by having him appear as NOT The Mandarin.

I agree plus there's plenty of other memorable DC villains that haven't been introduced yet as well which is hopefully a good thing in the DCEU's future:

The major DC villains we've seen so far in DCEU are Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot and Killer Croc (Batman), General Zod, Lex Luthor and Doomsday (Superman) and (Captain) Boomerang (The Flash).

Then there's rumoured for Suicide Squad 2 (if there is one):



Of the major rogues we still haven't seen yet are Bane, Mad Hatter, Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, Two-Face, Penguin, The Riddler, Hugo Strange, Ventriloquist and Ra's al Ghul (Batman). Bizarro, Darkseid, Braniac, Cyborg Superman and Mettalo (Superman) plus many more from Wonder Woman, The Flash, Aquaman, Green Lantern and Cyborg.

There's (also) even superhero's that we haven't been introduced to in the DCEU yet like Batgirl, Supergirl, Green Arrow, Robin (apart from the costume in BvS), Zatara, Zatanna and Martian Manhunter.

Thought this was quite clever. The comicbook Mandarin was a pretty silly villain anyway with his various rings of power. I do agree they may have wasted Kingsley though, only because he was born to play The Vulture!

Saw this last night, and not sure how I feel about the film. I can see critics panned the film but there are large parts that I enjoyed and others not so.

I like most of the characters especially Deadshot and Harley but didn't like Enchantress - but then I can't stand the actress.

The opening act was good and I didn't mind the second but the ending fell flat.

Like some others have said hopefully there will be an extended cut that will flesh out a few bits and maybe add the Joker parts that were cut.

Onto the Joker I just didn't really feel Jared as the character but I will keep an open mind about him for his next outing as we didn't see enough to say either way.

Because maybe the actors don't want to?
Will Smith especially might not want to be tied down like this before he even knows if the film be a success. It probably also helps with the salary negotiations.
