Not many women these days have the luxury of being totally looked after. Most of us have to work whether we like it or not and I suspect Gemma doesn't actually know the real meaning of work.
Poor Gemma obviously has no idea what to look for in a man. If this is her criteria for finding a decent partner she could be waiting a long time.

I watched victorian bakers too and that's not what I saw, women were pushed aside when baking was professionalised whereas previously they had worked in bakeries alongside men. As she makes cakes for a living all the bakers decided she should be in charge and the historian pointed out how that wouldn't have happened at the time.That woman was just saying how horrible it must have been for smart, capable women being excluded from managing at a time when it became possible to make real money from it and get creative with cakes. Not wanting to skin a tongue is hardly cherry-picking, the man was happy to do it and happy to be managed by a woman.
