Rapid charger for Nexus 5x
Geowitch
20-01-2016
The charger which came with the N5x is great, it really does charge quickly. but the spare I bought for another part of the house brings up the message "charging slowly". Please can someone advise me where to buy another rapid one preferably with a 2m lead?

I don't think you'll find a USB-C charger that has the lead pre-attached to it. I think you'll have to buy a high amperage charger and then a Google-certified USB-C cable to connect your phone to it to achieve rapid charging.

No idea if a Quick Charge 2.0 charger with a USB-C cable attached to it would be fully compliant, because the Nexus 5X doesn't use Quick Charge 2.0. They are high amperage though.

I'll wait for others to recommend something.

A quick look shows the Nexus 5x uses a 15w charger (3A 5V) which isn't Quick Charge 2.0 specification, I would think the only way to get the same charging rate would be to buy another Nexus 5x charger.

£19.99

d123, as I said though, the Nexus 5X doesn't use Quick Charge 2.0, so that doesn't actually make much difference. I would think that that Google charger will allow rapid charging.

I didn't say you did (that's why I didn't quote you) I was just giving my opinion (which happens to correspond with yours that the 5x isn't Quick Charge 2.0 compatible) and a suggestion that he needs to buy another 5x charger.

Price wise it's probably not worth the chance of buying a Fast Charge 2.0 charger that doesn't quick charge when he could just buy the original for £19.99

Quick Charge doesn't go up to 3A at 5V so it wouldn't rapid charge. It charges faster by upping the voltage to 9 or 12V.

It will still charge pretty quick at 2.4A which many chargers can offer.

I'm not sure if QC 3.0 chargers may work though? Anyone tried one?

Does the Google charger go up to 3A at 5V?

Sorry for any misunderstanding there mate. I didn't mean it like that

According to the specs on the Google page, yes.

Quote:
“Only applies to optimised Nexus devices, such as Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X, charged using the included USB Type-C 15W (5V/3A) charger. Battery must be substantially depleted; charging rate slows as charging progresses.”

In that case, my thinking is that the Google charger should support faster charging on the 5X.

Why doesn't the 5X support QC 2.0 by the way?

Having a quick read of the 2.0 specs and it actually does support 5v 3A maximum, so a Quick Charge 2.0 charger could well fast charge the 5x.

This is true.

Choetech sent me a USB C 3A charger with a USB C-C cable. It's also a rapid charger, I can't remember the exact voltage/amps off the top of my head but its.

5v/3a
9v/2ish a
12v/1ish amp.

I don't think the 5X or 6P support Quick Charge because it's proprietary, even though they're using Qualcomm chips.

Amazon and the like are still pretty sparse when it comes to accessories that can fast/rapid charge these phones but it's good to know they're slowly coming through.

They don't support Qualcomm quick charge but they support the USB-PD Rapid charging. My 6P charges insanely fast with the included 3A charger.

Thanks everyone. I have ordered one from the google store which seems safer as Amazon has so many to choose from I'd be sure to get the wrong one as i did before.

I ordered a few USB-A cables from Amazon and they turned out to be potentially dangerous. Amazon had no issue refunding me, but I too opted to buy the accessories from Google.

More expensive but not massively so.

I too purchased a couple of nice red ribbon cables from Amazon but they are so slow to charge.
