We want the Amazon firestick to be able to watch Youtube on our smart TV. The tv Doesn't have the youtube app, but has a HDMI port.

So for youtube and other apps, want to buy the Amazon firestick.


If you get the Amazon firestick from the shop, and connect it, then do we just pay the one time payment of the stick, connect it and we are able to view youtube for example.


i) a one time payment only of the stick, or there is a monthly Amazon charge, for the amazon account?


ii) What type of Amazon account do you need?
- is a new Free amazon account fine ?


iii) What do we need to connect? Is the following enough ?

-We want to View the youtube app, to see youtube on a Panasonic Smart TV,

This tv has a HDMI socket, but the TV Doesn't have youtube.

There is BT broadband/ router giving a WIFI signal.


So we have a smart TV, HDMI socket, WIFI, Amazon stick to get.

Is that all that is needed, to be able to connect and get the youtube App ?

(We don't want extra things to be added, such as laptop or mobile phones)

In short yes, you'll get you tube, and needn't pay anything more. But is it worth it, probably not, unless you have an Amazon Prime Account, you can then get their movie, TV and music content too.

You'd be better off getting a NOW TV box (think it has You Tube) or a Roku box, which will give you more choice again.

I have two Roku sticks, one Roku box and one Fire Stick and out of them all I would recommend the Roku stick or box, not that there is anything wrong with the Fire stick it’s just the Roku OS seems to be a bit slicker and definitely so for catch up TV. The stick or box, whatever you choose will be all you need as you seem to have everything else that’s needed.

Although I say I don’t have any problems with any of the streamers my Fire stick causes interference to my Pani large screen TV while the FS is using the 5 GHz band wifi (2.4 GHz no problems) with dropouts when viewing normal Freeview HD on the TV however my Pani 26” bedroom TV does not suffer this interference so it more to do with the TV than the FS.

I've got one and don't currently subscribe to Prime, there's plenty else you can watch on it, you can put Netflix on, Youtube, there's BBC IPlayer & Demand 5, needs ITV Hub & All4, but you can currently put on STV Player for most ITV shows anyway, this obviously makes it still a pretty useful catch up device, All4 it really needs, however with sideloading with a Windows app called "adbfire" you can more or less put any Android app on, this means you can have Kodi & add-ons on it, maybe you could sideload All4 too but I haven't tried that, but it certainly means you can get a huge amount of TV & movies streamed on this cheap device, so Prime isn't essential!
It's a 1080p device too, it can even be used with Plex to stream your home collection of any HD movies or whatever you might have.

I'm not saying you can't, it's just why bother, there's better out there if you don't have prime

Netflix, Youtube, iPlayer + Kodi provides a vast amount of additional choice. Prime extends the choice a bit more if you still need more, but for now - until Top Gear returns on Amazon - that provides plenty of things to watch.
