is the Toymaker due a return?

just sat here thinking, that the Toymaker would make a excellent villain for the Doctor to face, i think he would go down quite well with new era fans. also it gives us a change from the same old Dalek, master returns.

threes a few classic era villains who i think would work well in the new era.

The toymaker would be great to come back, but i doubt we will see a return.

I think that a great episode could be construed using the celestial toymaker as a villain.

Something tells me that the programme that just did multiple episodes about alien refugees is not going to turn around and have an 'Evil Chinaman' as the villain in 2016.

There are a number of great Big Finish adventures with the Celestial Toymaker as the villain.

I particularly enjoyed The Nightmare Fair, one of the stories written for the original season 23 before the show was put on hiatus.

Interesting script too, mentioning how the Time Lords were so afraid of the Toymaker's power that they gave an instruction for him to be avoided at all costs.

He'd be probably be considered "too silly" by most people these days, but a reappearance of him could make for a fantastic story.

Draconians first though.

It would be interesting to see the Doctor take on a character who has (essentially) the power to alter reality at will. I always wondered if there would be a reveal that the Trickster and the Toymaker were either one and the same or from the same place.

I think the Toymaker would make for a decent enough villain in a Christmas special or something. His inclusion would work quite well if it was done in the same way they dealt with the Macra - a nice nod to an old villain for older fans, newer ones are unaware of the link to the past quite so explicitly but it's made to work in the script.

I would still much prefer to see the Trickster cross over into Doctor Who though! Superb villain.

To be honest, the character of the Toymaker himself wasn't silly but the story and other characters were and this was within keeping of the audience at that time.

The Toymaker was a very sinister villain and all he needs is some updating to reflect modern audiences, so I don't see why he shouldn't return. I've been saying that for ages, with all the modern effects we can have quite a good episode or too with him. He certainly is different from the villain-wanting-to-take-over-the universe type of baddie.

I agree that he'd be a top choice for a fun Christmas romp - living Tin Soldiers, clockwork robots and so on, and a Who version of that inevitable interminable moment where some crusty relative forces out the board games and ruins everyone's day by taking it too seriously. I hadn't considered it before but it really is the ultimate Christmas Who.

If they go down the route of using video games as his weapon that they followed in The Nightmare Fair, it could really get the looking nervously at their freshly unwrapped Playstations and Wiis, haha.

Guys, you should've grabbed last month's issue of Tales from the Tardis, published by Titan Comics. It included a story in which the Twelfth Doctor and Clara faced the Toymaker (along with a Ninth Doctor story). In comic book stores, this was originally issue 16 of Doctor Who: The Twelfth Doctor, which you may still be able to find. Both versions came out about six weeks ago.

I think he'd be a perfect character for a nightmarish Christmas special.

Surprised it hasn't been done by now.

Funnily enough, the comic I mentioned happens to be a Christmas special.
