I wonder if someone can help me with my new ipod.
I am connecting it up to my computer but the computer is not recognising it.
I have a 60G photo ipod which i purchased a couple of days ago.
When i got it i installed the cd software and when the software asked to plug it in i did so.
The software said i needed to format the drive so i did so. This took over 10 mins and then i read some post on here saying that it should need that long so i aborted and restarted.
This time the format only took a minute and everything seemed to install ok but now the computer does not recognise my ipod.
I have confirmed i have usb2.0 ports
itunes etc is working fine - just not recognising the ipod is there
The ipod is charging when plugged in so this would rule out any cable fault.
and the ipod comes p with the following under "about"

photos 0
capacity 55.7Gb
available 55.7Gb
version 1.0
s/n my serial no
model M9586LL
format windows

Can you disconnect every other USB device from the PC (except mouse if you have a USB mouse)?

There could be a conflicting hardware device.

Thanks for the reply. I have now fixed my ipod - just needed resetting (which i obviously did try) i had tried resetting it with moving the hold button (by the way - hold was off!)etc but this didnt work. I tried it just now without the switching of the hold button and hey presto!
