I didn't mean it in that sense. I always give credit to both dancers.
There were some negative comments about him and I thought I will just show my support. He is a good dancer and he deserves it.

Most people are on social media these days, and super fans would definitely know who wins very quickly.

I'm not questioning Jay's popularity, I'm just not convinced there a big difference in the demographics of Jay vs Anita fans. I assume Jay's fans are overwhelmingly female.

I would say probably all the celebrity dancers fans are mostly female. I was at the show last night and there were a lot more women than men and judging by the reaction Gleb received just before his paso (when he had his chest out) I think most of his fans are definitely women.

From teenage and older girls ( and boys for that matter ) to much older ladies who just love both Jay and Aliona dancing together, he must have an enormous following. But I think he has a huge interest from the dance world ( choreographers, aspiring dance students ) ( I don't think they featured any of the others on the cover of Ballet News like they did Jay and Aliona ) the gay community and even hetero guys who just think he's doing a great job for the blokes out there and want to support him ! Phenomenal and unexpected popularity that seems to have taken everyone involved last year on Strictly by surprise, not least Jay and Aliona I expect. And all done without getting his chest out once

Agree!

I think the Casting Elves struck lucky this last series - because whatever 'it' is that Mr Cowell spends weeks searching for on the 'other side', they dropped on completely by accident - at least twice.

That's the thing with 'it' - you can't pin it down or explain it, it just is for a myriad of undefinable reasons . I just think we were lucky to see it in action!

I would add, the fact he was not perfect, his stumbles and mistakes endeared him even more to the GBP.

Indeed - and the way he dealt with them and all trials and tribulations flung his way during the course of the series..

I agree with Seaside Lady, too, that Jay's (or Jaliona's) appeal is broader than many people give him credit for. As, for that matter, is Anita's (or Glita's). It's very far from being all about two blokes' sex appeal .....

Ugh it's about time someone else won. It's getting boring. It's always the good looking men that wiln because the majority of the audience is women. But the others don't stand a chance now. There's only a week left. Love to see Helen and Georgia win. I think they're popular with the little girls because they are like princesses!

I think the casting department deserve more credit than believing they cast a highly trained, talented, good looking, charming boyband member by shutting their eyes and pointing.

Not true ... didn't Rachel & Vincent clean up their year despite the good looks of Gethin Jones? Also ... the heartthrob (on paper) this last series would definitely have been Peter Andre and look how far he got?
You can't expect people to vote for anyone other than their favourite. I'm sure you wouldn't ... however many times your favourite had won.

And also most of Jay and Aliona's supporters didn't even know who the guy was and let me tell you I was one of them! But their partnership and the quality of their dancing made me fall in love with them both as a couple and separate individuals and I think I speak for most of their supporters not everyone knew who he was his dancing really did inspire a lot of people.

Oh, for sure - but I do think that just how much the audience connected with him was bit of a surprise. It's not like they've not cast charming and good looking blokes before only to wave them off in the early stages.

Jay and Aliona won this afternoon.

It's so irritating when people go on about him being in a boy band as the reason he won. The majority of people I know who voted for Jaliona had no idea who the Wanted were.

More people would have known who Simon Webbe was. I certainly did. He was a talented dancer and came over well. But a boy band member who didn't win.

Quite simply the Jay and Aliona partnership had that magical X Factor that about 75% of the audience got and 25% didn't. This is why they won the series and are winning most tour shows and never worse than 2nd.

People talk about The Wanted as if they were Take That or something .... when, I imagine, they hardly binged on the radar of the Strictly demographic. I had just about heard of them but knew none of them by sight. Jay definitely looked like a caveman ... I am totally with Aliona's mum there But ... something happened on the dance floor ... a combination of all sorts of things which resulted in something, as you say, magical.

Definitely, I knew of the Wanted and their songs but I wouldn't have known Jay if he passed me in the street. I just liked him from the start of strictly and then I fell in love with his dancing over the weeks and thought his relationship with Aliona was as you said magical.

And another win for Jay and Aliona in Glasgow tonight. Must be all those boy band fans again

I had heard of The Wanted mainly because Richard and Xander from Pointless always say how much they like them. Wouldn't know them particularly though! I do now.

I used to be a big fan of The Wanted and still like them now. Nathan's always been my favourite

Indeed, it must be.
SCD is clearly following the algorithm
INPUT boyband member
GO TO Strictly week n
ITERATE n = 1, ... ,13
OUTPUT Glitterball winner

The series and tour wins couldn't possibly be because of the public's connection with Jay's exquisite musicality, his sublime partnership with Aliona, and their shared joy in dancing ......

..... could they?
