so are people glad we don't have any doctor who this year because of the euros and olympics. Why do they give us all this Bull? Like thats why its not on this year.

I made an effort to avoid london 2012

That's so generous of Moffat & the BBC to free up the schedules for these sporting events and delay Doctor Who until next year. So kind!!

With the greatest respect to Doctor Who, which we all love, as a television event a new series of it is hardly in the same league as something like an Olympic Games or a major international football tournament!
I think the BBC were clutching at straws a bit there!

They knew they were going to have to attempt to sugar coat it and act like the lack of who was actually some sort of purposeful plan, so they had to say something to make the bad news seem not so bad, even if it was something completely unconvincing and pathetic.

Still, citing the sporting events as an excuse probably ranks better than claiming a certain year would have 'more who than ever before' and then showing less than a full series of episodes that year and only actually making 2 new one's in that year.

She should have gone with "We want to get Doctor Who back to messing with barbeque evenings!"

I did rather wince at the notion of episode 1 of series 10 being equated with the opening ceremony of the olympics. Or a national state moment with a Dimbleby narrating: "And tense moments here as the Doctor opens proceedings with the Waving Of The Sonic. The crowds hushed in awed reverence as the first whirry bleepy noises are heard. His next ceremonial duty will be to initiate the Wheezing And The Groaning."

....Followed of course, by the traditional first run down a corridor of the series.

The End of Time Master would be a shoo-in for the High Jump.

This is ridiculous. Everyone knows that Dr Who fans don't watch sport on TV. Other than quidditch, of course..

The Euros are June, Olympics 2 weeks in august. No big sporting events September to December when the next series could have been on as far as i am aware except same old same old which the bbc won't have the rights for anyway.
