Well John is a disliked as anyone and has had plenty of threads.
I think they often put in reality types, the males are thick and dull so ingender less hatred than the women who tend to be loud and trashy.

Because they're more disliked? Who else had a screaming fit like Megan? Who else is as smug and irritating as Gemma? Most of the women who audition for BB are more obnoxious than the men, though we have also had hated male housemates.
It's not some gender conspiracy, it's that they're actually more dislikeable! Who is my least favourite housemate? Gemma... is it because she's a woman? No, it's because she's annoying as ****! If a guy acted like her, I'd hate him too.

I think it's more that the men, apart from John, are a really grim bunch and, apart from saying how dull and unengaging they are, there's not much else to say about them: Jeremy's a vapid idiot, Scotty's a one-note bore, Darren's dull as ditchwater and Christopher, though pleasant enough, is not exactly setting the house on fire, is he?
The females are just more interesting to talk about than the males, hence the number of threads.

That crowd outside aren't usually that reflective though are they? They repeatedly cheer housemates who have been evicted and boo ones who stay.

I agree with you. I actually really like John as a HM but the rest of the men are all rather bland and dull.
The women are making this series, mostly for being absolutely bloody hideous, but they're giving their all whereas, John aside, I don't know any more about any of the men than I did a fortnight ago.

Maybe because some of them - e.g., Steph, Tiff, Kristina and Megan - are beautiful and have lovely slim bodies, the way we would all like to be, but they can exhibit awful character traits. So they look like angels but are horrendous. And this gulf between appearance and reality dismays us. Society judges the women on the disparity between their looks/bodies and their bullying, conniving, betraying, greedy, swearing, dirty or unhygienic ways.
The men can be equally awful in some ways but society forgives them any disparity between the way they look and the way they actually are. - Simply because men are generally not judged on their looks. So Jeremy is thought of as sweet and lovely and in fact has behaved disgustingly with Steph - in love one day and then totally off the next.

IM female and wanted Shilpa Shetty to win but she was gorgeous and had dignity..
Women are always more disliked by TV audiences because the audience is mostly female. It's the reason why Scotty is favourite to win because he has a female fan base. It's not blokes who think he is fit, it's girls. Similarly female audiences are much more critical of other women - for looks, morals, bitching, whatever. Straight mature men are not the audience for soap operas, reality or BB - and they are the least likely to comment or vote or have an opinion. What grown up straight guy wants to watch a TV show dominated by GC moaning about her hair?
I like some of the women (Tiffany, Nancy, Kristina) and dislike some of the men (Winston,Jeremy ) in this series. Overall though the men this year are more likeable than the ladies, in my opinion.

The women and John are the only ones worth commenting on and we are a negative bunch. Is this your first BB?

Not true, I like Tiffany best and quite like Christopher too. I can tolerate the rest of them, apart from Gemma

Look at the rest of this thread, a common belief on DS is that women are 'victimised' because of their gender, always conveniently ignoring how badly they act or that they are just not nice people
It's part of a wider agenda to always make women 'the victim' and shift blame away from them and onto the people who are criticising them with the implication of sexism, because throwing around 'isms' is always a good tactic for silencing the opposition
