hi

I've got a 1100S and notice most of the channels have poorer picture quality compared to my ~6 year old series 6 samsung freeview.

Even BBC1, seems to show artifacts/blurring on moving objects more easily on freeview. Also the colours on freesat look softer, like the contrast is lower or something.

Wierd thing is, i've had this box about 4 months and only just noticed it, though i rarely watch much TV anyway, mostly watch netflix or amazon prime these days (both of which look better on my TV than the freesat).

Now i've noticed it, its really annoying.

I tried changing the settings on the 1100s from 1080i, to 1080p to 720 etc and couldn't find anything that improved it.

My satellite dish is a sky one, and as far as I know (any way to check?) it is aligned properly.

Sorry for the vague questions but i wondered if anyone could give me pointers on what to check, or am i simply expecting too much? I dont think so, freesat should be spot on IMO, but i'm not an expert..

Thanks
Mike

Are you comparing HD channels or SD. What do you think of the picture quality on netflix played via the freesat box?

Many TV's have settings that you can change per HDMI socket. Perhaps there is are better settings there.

I have a HDR-1000S (Almost the same) and the picture quality on my Philips TV is excellent and has none of the problems you mention.

I suspect that your dish is fine - see settings > system info > signal - If the quality is above 45% all should be fine - normally you should aim for near to 100%.
Heavy rain is normally a problem and the higher the picture quality the greater the rain tolerance.

The BBC do use dynamic compression which should compress less when the picture has fast movment. Perhaps they slipped up.

Corrected in capitals, as i said freeview but meant freesat.

Netflix looks good.

Comparing SD to SD. Literally, switching back and forth between the two - rewinding on freesat box as i don't have rewind on the native freeview which is build into the TV.

I'll check out the TV settings and report back - thanks. Didn't consider that.

Dish alignment has absolutely no effect on picture quality beyond pixellation/blocking when the signal is too low. It is a digital signal and is all or nothing except on the "digital cliff" signal level when pixellation/blocking occurs.

Solved!!!!

Thanks for the advice.

Energy saving and dynamic picture mode were enabled for that hdmi input.

Picture is equivalent to the built in freeview so am now very happy

Thanks again!
