Anyway, I bought Legend: The Notorious Story of the Kray Twins on DVD yesterday in my local Sainsburys. I didn't realise it at the time, but Christopher Eccleston is in this.

I've got the original 1995 book about the Krays that the film was based on.

I shall enjoy watching this, as I didn't see this in the cinema. I may watch the Martin and Gary Kemp one from 1990 first. I've got that on DVD too.

Nothing much, just to pass the time. There is more to life than Doctor Who.

The entire point of the thread is to suggest things to fill the gap while DW is not on air. It's not complicated.

Just to say I caught up with the first episode of Daredevil yesterday and was suitably impressed. I liked the character portrayals and the dark grittiness.

Looks like I will be watching the rest of it and Jessica Jones too.

I'd like to kick off with AKA Jessica Jones. Its on Netflix and stars Krysten Ritter (just wonderful) as the title hero and David Tennant as a particularly nasty villain called Kilgrave. I love Tennant in this - everything that made him charming and accessible as the 10th Doctor is turned on its head here and used to make his villain absolutely terrifying. A show that goes slow (but a good slow), minimises the super-heroics in favour of genuine human suffering and makes you feel a little panicked at times when you think everything is going to go wrong. Its also very funny when it needs to be. So that's my starter for 10.

Please share your ideas!”

Thanks for the recommendation of J J just watched the first episode on Daily Motion. Really like the female lead who looks so much like Eve Myles and the gritty urban chic . I am curious to see David
Tennant as a villain and if he pulls it off

If you've never seen Fringe then that's a great catch up. The program that out X's the X Files.

Walter in that show would have been a terrific Doctor.

Great to hear you enjoyed it. And now you've had a free sample you can cough up the relatively tiny figure of £7.99 to help ensure they can continue making quality dramas of their own like Jessica Jones for many years to come not to mention enjoy an HD picture and an entire catalogue of other films and TV shows.

We're currently watching Supergirl with our 13-year-old.

So, as a recommendation, NOT Supergirl.

Another vote of thanks for recommending Jessica Jones. I followed on from watching DareDevil, which I really enjoyed, and I'm now on episode 4 of JJ. David Tennant makes an excellent villain.

The BBC have adapted Len Deighton's book, 'SS-GB' and will be shown later on this year.
SS-GB is an alternative timeline story of Hitler's Nazi occupation of Britain.

I'm wondering if the new BBC adapation of War and Peace is worth watching, as War and Peace is my absolute favourite book of all time and if I could only ever read one book for the rest of my life, that would be it. I'm just concerned as I'm hearing some very mixed things about it and I don't want my love for the book to prevent my enjoyment of it. Anyone seen this and what do they think?

Does anyone here that doesn't own any of the classic DW stories on DVD that the Horror Channel are currently airing actually watch it as a must-see?

It's not cute! Just let each thing be its own thing!

Despite loving Jessica Jones S1, if I need to watch anything other than Jessica Jones S1 to get on board with Jessica Jones S2 I expect I'll probably have to skip it. That's very frustrating.

(Another example, which is a bigger mid-late season spoiler...)

All that stuff with Simpson and the red pills and blue pills felt really dissonant, it didn't match the vibe of the rest of the show - it was more schlocky, more comic book. Had no inclination it was another comic book character, just felt weird. It felt like plonking a video game character in the middle of a tense, psychological thriller. That's not a slight against video games, love them, think they're better than telly, but just that tonal mismatch. It was distracting and didn't quite fit with the aesthetic they'd established, like they were changing the rules too late in the game.
”

It's nothing of the sort. It is an entirely planned lead up to a series called Defenders, based on established Marvel property. They are each a part of a larger story, all set in the same area, so of course there will be crossover characters.

And on that matter - both Daredevil series 2 and Luke Cage series 1 will be on this year - March for DD and November (most likely) for LC.

You just wait... He gets soooo much better (and by that I mean worse, in a manner of speaking!)

You don't want to drink a cup of coffee near Tennant. It would be a bad decision.

I suppose my question was really open to those whom live in the UK.
But to answer your question, quite a varied selection from each Doctor and usually two episodes a night, Monday to Friday. They tend to loop a few of the stories every 3 to 4 months.

I recently caught up with this too. I thought it was OK but it didn't really rock my world. I was a little bored by the 'am I a good man or a bad man' schtick because it's been done to death in so many other dramas recently, including Doctor Who. And I really couldn't stand his lawyer side kick, horribly written cliched character who was terribly acted but fortunately he wasn't in it too much.

Think I'll wait a while before watching JJ as i might be getting a little superhero fatigued.

Anyway, Walking Dead starts up again tomorrow. Woohoo. Bring on the anarchy!

Jessica Jones is very good. To quote my wife - god this is really really really slow ...... Then, David Tennant appears properly and boom, it's brilliant. I skipped Daredevil, it was too boring, ironically watching Jessica made me go back to Daredevil and it was a worthey season.

Our friends had been recommending Daredevil for ages but we eventually went for Jessica Jones because it had two of our favourite actors (Krysten Ritter and David Tennant) and loved it.

We then decided to watch Daredevil, We're about four episodes in. I'm really enjoying it but the husband thinks it's too violent so I may be watching the rest on my own

Also:

The Walking Dead is back tonight! And Game of Thrones can't be far off either.

Wait a minute, you and your husband watch The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones but he thinks Daredevil is too violent?! It's like play school compared to those two.
