WOT A LAD. No, seriously. Some good choices there. I'm not sure they've ever had as many quality US imports airing at the same time before!

This week added interest comes via NCIS moving to Saturday nights and how well that will be received. I'm hopeful, but not confident, of a good showing from both shows in their new slots. It doesn't help that they are airing new episodes as normal on Friday, as some viewers might think they are repeats. They should have had an 8 day gap and fully promoted the switch.

What would you like to see Five buy next following the success of X-Files? I suggested Lucifer, but nobody seemed to like that idea.

When Indian Summers started it became Channel 4's highest rated drama in several years with over 5 million, that record was broken by the infinitely better Humans a few months later. After episode 1 Indian Summers dropped all the way to the end of the series and was scraping 1 million in the overnights. But it did timeshift fairlly well. It also skews very old unlike Humans and most other Channel 4 dramas. It's nothing special. No doubt got a second series as it is a co-production with PBS and sells abroad. It hasn't pulled up trees critically or ratings wise though.

Indian Summers' ratings trajectory makes for depressing reading, true. But why on earth would you bring it back last night of all weeks, especially with the above in mind? Up against another period drama on ITV - the below par performance of which was not known by C4 when they made the scheduling call - and a huge hit on BBC One in the shape of The Night Manager, which would have been known about.

Sundays are never easy, but there will be far better opportunities than last night in the next couple of months. Bringing it back there was asking for trouble, and if anything the rating was slightly higher than I expected in the circumstances.

I just love Countryfile being the 5th most popular programme. Does anyone reckon Bake Off will beat Sherlock's figure when it gets to the final?

One other consolidated rating that is well worth a mention this week...

The Walking Dead: 1.97m

A new all-time high for the show in the UK for season 6 episode 11 "Knots Untie", two weeks after it returned from its midseason break.

Easily - unless Whittingdale bans it before it returns. Which seems a high possibility, the way he's started picking on it again for apparantly not being distinctive enough.

Countryfile? A programme nobody else was doing. How is that not distinctive? Oh you mean Bake Off. A programme nobody else was doing in primetime.

Nice peak for Crufts.

Here's something you don't see happen very often: Episode 3 of Who's the Boss? rated better on repeat for BBC Two than it did for its first showing (0.71m/3.5% vs 0.61m/2.9% last Tuesday at 9pm).

Ray do you have any old daytime ratings in your ratings archive?

Slightly off topic but has anyone noticed the PR onslaught from ITV daytime of late? Almost every day on every tabloid's website there's some "wacky" story from This Morning, Loose Women and / or Good Morning Britain. This Morning is by far the worst - every little thing is now a news story from that show for the tabs. If I didn't know better I'd think some of it was set up, too. Seriously if I have to see Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby "breaking down in giggles" like it's an important show again, I'll scream.

I have the weekly Top 100 for most weeks from 1983-1992 which may include some children's programmes (Television Weekly/Broadcast would usually just give an average for anything shown more than once a week) and some weekend afternoon programmes. I have also got the top 30s for BBC2 and C4 from 1989 until mid-1994 which may include some daytime. In 1993, Broadcast's chart was for the top 50 only, then the top 70 from 1994, and unlikely to include much from daytime.

Lots will. Bake Off, BGT, Strictly.

But..but...what about Food Glorious Food? (It wasn't as good as Bake Off because ITV don't have a penny to rub together for a budget, obvs...)

The BBC a don't help themselves sometimes. Surely they should be avoiding all controversy until their future is fully signed off.

But instead Top Gear has already ended up with negative publicity, a film having to be junked, and yet more sticks for the Daily Mail etc to bash the BBC with.

Are people not able to work out that the BBC is a rather large organisation? I doubt the filming was signed off by Tony Hall.

Warwickshire were very strong in that era, too.

That's Top Gear's fault rather than the BBC's. If the production team do something that buggers up filming that is more their fault than anybody else's. ITV bosses didn't know what a mess the phone-in scandal was a few years back and hoped their employees were doing things in good faith.

Anyway, The Daily Mail will always bash the BBC and it is screwed anyway with Whittingdale making decisions.

The Director General does everything at the BBC, even takes the milk in at Broadcasting House and serves food at lunchtime.

Just like how Adam Crozier and Peter Fincham were directly responsible for every second of output on ITV.

He's been known to drop in as relief cover last minute when some local BBC station in the hills has required it...the BBC is after all a threadbare organisation in reality (well it will be once the Tories are finished with it...they're making it so obvious as well, talk about chomping at the bit to trip the Beeb up, they have to be more subtle when it comes to the NHS. Anyway..)
