Bit late on this but with Elaine Beddell also going from ITV are X Factor's days definitely numbered do people think? I would have said so with another new boss but with Kevin Lygo it may just make it through.

I'm just ensuring balance. If there is mass hysteria when ITV reschedule a soap episode, there should be when the BBC do as well. It can't be acceptable to do so because ITV do the same, when it wasn't apparently acceptable when they did in the first place. You hear that sort of argument a lot round here.

Were you here in the summer when the rugby World Cup disrupted the ITV soap schedules, and all the displaced ones were seen as extra, and there was faux shock every week when there were more than the usual ED & CS and the net effect was calculated over many months

Exactly. There was a valid reason for that 8:30pm outing. Which is more than can be said for the Emmerdale clashes engineered by itv against EastEnders. One rule for one broadcaster, another rule for another.

It's just a pilot at this point. It's a show called Meet The Parents and involves single guys and girls being paired up by their parents.

Could potentially be quite funny. Alternatively could be total shit. Hopefully a pilot will help them determine the answer to that. But people (including me) dismissed Take Me Out before it started but 8 series on it's still doing decent numbers.

I think most of us realise when channels move soaps it's annoying for clashes but there is logic to it.

The difference is the BBC rarely do it and when they do there is usually a valid reason. They also don't tend to put EE on against one of the ITV soaps - a same genre clash seems to be ITV's first choice every time when there are other less aggravating options.

Displaced episodes have to go somewhere and while there's an overlap in viewership between BOAF and EE evidently, it's probably smaller than the one between EE and Emmerdale which would've inconvenienced more viewers.


Actually both ITV soaps ended up ahead of their usual count. Hour longs of ED were being spewed out like there was no tomorrow even when the disruption was minor.

Only time EE has extra episodes is Christmas when schedules are atypical anyway. Given they make the most effort of the soaps at that time of year I don't begrudge them a couple of extra eps which aren't scheduled against ITV soaps.

This has the potential to be disastrous, and will only inflate Holly's ego even more than it already is.

Although anything without Paddy loudmouth McGuiness can only be a good thing.

But they don't need another one on ITV, which is the channel its likey to be on.

There are certain genres that never are popular around here. Anything that isn't a drama seems to be the ones these days.

As someone pointed out a couple of days ago. Blind Date, which was basically a very tacky cheesy show, ran for 30 weeks a year for about 15 years. These days anything like that would be sneered at from initial commission to eventual axing.

It shows how times of changed and how people seem quite snobby about light entertainment these days which is why there is so little of it around, and it's hard to launch any new ones.

But the fact remains, they already have a dating show, and a spin-off on ITV2. They don't need two. Its not like Take Me Out does anything impressive in ratings, though I suspect the demos are what is attracting them.

They've also only recently had Love Island.

In regards to snobbyness to current light ent., there are so many more channels that there were back in the days of Blind Date. ITV nedd to be looking for hits, not midling shows they already have one of. Viewers have less patience these days.

I think you'll find that people have ALWAYS been snooty towards light entertainment.

Blind Date, Noel's House Party, 3-2-1, Game For A Laugh - hated by everyone apart from the general public.

I personally used to hate 3-2-1 because the standard of comedy was so awful, (The studio audience never laughed at host Ted Rogers' jokes. They use to clap politely.) but now I think it's quite fun to catch a repeat on Challenge. Memories of a more innocent television time, albeit still one when the critics looked down their noses at light entertainment shows.

Last night's ratings: Celebrity Big Brother's eviction shows pulled in 2.38m (11.1%) and 2.14m (13.7%) respectively. Between the two Lip Sync Battle continued with 1.26m (7.2%).

Fantastic share for that second show!

Last night's ratings: The Last Leg returned at 10pm for a special watched by 1.12m (6.8%). It rounded off an okay night for C4 in which 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown posted 1.16m (5.5%).

Thats a bit of a drop for Lip Sync but I think last week was the weakest line up yet. The next few weeks should do better with Voderman v kemp and then I think it is Vegas v Reeves
