Stand out for me is Love Island. Not right for the main channel but perfect ratings wise for ITV2. What we say for Big Brother? Solid? Low? I don't know.”

Well very poor for it's launch, but yesterdays rating has thrown me back abit. The first show usually drops around 20-25% average from launch, but being the smallest ever drop is alarming considering the hate it got on social media. Perhaps it was:

1. The EU debate which dented it on Tuesday
2. Not facing Love Island

But either way, a lot more positive last night generally, the show was actually great, better than launch for sure.

But it will go down as will LI as they will keep facing each other now.

Love Island though, highest ever rating since moving to ITV2. Surely they should do what they did last night every day (bar Fridays) considering it made both shows look good.

I take your point although weight loss programmes rarely fail in my experience. It's not individual programmes though but a general underperformance for at least the past two weeks. In all my time following ratings that has never been the case with BBC One, even in the summer.

From the top 3, we can deduce that both The Andrew Neil Interviews and The Big C and Me were under 1.95m.

I'm almost tempted to distrust the figure. Maybe having a strong Love Island around is helping BB since they didn't clash? ”

That does look better for Big Brother. Still find it funny that the regular version was the top version on Channel 4, now on Channel 5 it's the celebrity version.

That seems the best for both Love Island and Big Brother, keep them apart.

I don't think BBC1 factual has been particularly good or appealing the last few weeks. A cancer doc in prime time is the definition of PSB, but few want to see that. Then some other ones they've done look tacky. Channel 4 and Channel 5 have had better factual the last few weeks.

Two new factual entertainment commissions for C5, announced this morning:

Quote:
“Stripped and Stranded
Takes 'disjointed' British families on a survival adventure, where all modern comforts are taken away from them. The families must learn to survive without food, water or shelter to see if they can rebuild their relationships. Filmed in Panama, the show is executive produced by Andreae, who launched Discovery's Naked and Afraid, and Mike Warner.

The New Wife (w/t)
Explores the dynamics of divorced families with children. Each week, one parent moves back in with their ex and his or her new partner to see if they can get along and create a happy, healthy family environment. Executive produced by Pulse's Emma Cooper.”

And some general ratings talk with controller, Ben Frow:

I used to lock myself in a dark room if I got less than 2.5m. Those days are gone, I have to be a big boy now; 1.5 million on C5 is a big hit show.”

He went onto confirm that Rylan Clark-Neal's chat show will be back "in some form or another" despite underwhelming viewing figures for the first series.

Perhaps if channel 5 actually bothered to promote big brother it would perhaps add on 200/300,000.

Then it would be seemed as much more decent viewing figures.

Tbh last night was the highest HL show since Week 6 of BB15, two years ago. So, it's not bad at all.

But I agree with the promo.

Very good, unexpected, retention for Big Brother last night despite all of the usual "worst launch ever", "worst cast ever", "it's not Big Brother anymore", "axe it" over social media.

Summer maybe? People out for longer in the lighter evenings etc, not cooped up indoors watching tele at 7.

I've seen that Rylan/Emma trail for it dozens of times over the last few weeks and I only watch The Wright Stuff so I'm assuming it's been on inbetween other Five shows too.

BB retention is easily explained. There is no casual audience who just tuned in to the launch anymore, so the first episode doesn't get an uplift that is then immediately lost.

BBC1's wishy washy midweek factual looks to now be getting similar ratings to ITV's wishy washy midweek factual, rather than getting 4m for similar food/money/supermarkets type stuff.

Has Broadcast been updated?

Anyone know what the following got with +1...

The Hotel Inspector
Big Brother
Love Island
24 Hours in Police Custody

Thanks

That wasn't the cast last year when the first proper show dropped 600,000 from launch.

Yeah, I thought that was kinda obvious too. With the show's audience becoming more and more niche year after year, the gap between casual viewers and those people that'll pretty much always watch it (regardless of quality) is getting smaller and smaller.

Incredibly tight contest at 9pm last night between the big five. 500,000 splitting the lot of them.

Including +1 channels the finishing order was...

1st: 24 Hours in Police Custody (Channel 4): 2.0m / 10.8%
2nd: The Secrets of Growing Up (ITV): 1.8m / 9.6%
3rd: Versailles (BBC Two): 1.6m / 8.9%
4th: The Big C and Me (BBC One): 1.5m / 8.2%
5th: The Hotel Inspector (Channel 5): 1.5m / 8.1%

Most shows have a casual audience, why do you feel this may not be the case with big brother anymore?

As long as Love Island is at 9 with BB at 10 I think the two will help eachother. Brilliant figures for both last night it must be said!

Does anyone know how The Vampire Diaries did last night? It was on straight after Love Island so had a decent lead in for once.

Don't have the exact number, but from the top 3's we can work out it was less than 250,000.

Why is BB back on 9pm tonight? Bonkers to put it against Love Island.

They're launching a new panel show modelled closely on Celebrity Juice in the Celebrity Juice slot in a couple of weeks.

What they should have done is air that in an eviction night sandwich on Fridays.

Pretty certain that is also 9pm the lowest slot winning audience ever.

I'm beginning to think Love Island could overtake BB this summer. It's ironic that a show which was driven off air by BB ten years ago on ITV 1 is now closing in on its old rival. Also since the original celeb version last aired ten years ago, many viewers will consider LI Mark 2 to be a new show and may not remember the original.
