Good repeat rating for Marigold Hotel. What does that make the total with its first showing added?
A group of old farts in one place to live watched by cameras, with no rows and no faux romances....shows were CBB has gone wrong?

I wonder if BBC want to revisit So You Think You Can Dance. It looks like it might get cancelled in America as the next series will be an 8-13 yeah old dancer series, which nobody as an interest in. So if it gets canned there and American Idol ends then Nigel might be tempted to return to UK shores.
Didn't it totally bomb for its 2nd series though? I think a proper Music show like Must be the Music might be a nice follow up to losing The Voice but not sure how well it would do

BBC1 just need to skew old on Saturday's and they will be fine. Casualty and the Lottery do that so far. Throw in Pointless and you've got your Saturday 2017 shedule sorted.

7pm Pointless
7.45pm Lottery
8.45pm Casualty
9.45pm Mrs Browns Boys rpt
10.15pm BBC News

Sorted! Tha line up is just mouth watering.

Looking at last nights Radio Times C4 also had a varied schedule. I just wish sometimes viewers would go to other channels than just BBC1 and ITV.

The BBC have made it quite clear that they are looking for a new LE series to replace The Voice.

It would though be interesting to see Pointless Celebrities against The Voice. A BBC1 victory there perhaps?

Dance shows never tend to do well on the BBC, other than SCD. They also had Dance X and Strictly Dance Fever, neither of which lasted more than a series. It's the sort of format that doesn't work on a big platform, but can be huge on a small one- see Got to Dance on Sky1 as an example.

I can't see something like Must Be The Music being a success either, by its very nature it is a niche type of programme. Even The Voice itself was originally touted as being that sort of programme. If the BBC do follow up The Voice with another reality show, their best option would be to revive the Andrew Lloyd Webber format as at least it's something alternative.

Why did the BBC stop doing the Andrew Webber shows? Was it because of ratings or because he jumped ship to ITV? (Nothing new there.).

Didn't they feel it was inappropriate to have a show where people were ostensibly auditioning to be Jesus Christ ?

Agreed. Given the money saved from TVUK I think it rather demands something more adventurous and if we get that schedule it will be a creative desert.

Not that its to underestimate the task of finding something new. The BBC haven't ruled out anything-including talent shows- but its easier said than done.

Some tapechecked numbers from Thursday night:

EastEnders: 6.42m (32.4%)
Dickensian: 2.22m (10.5%)
Room 101: 2.53m (11.9%)
Death in Paradise: 6.19m (27.7%)

Story of China: 1.22m (5.5%)

Emmerdale 7pm: 6.64m (34.1%)
Tonight: 2.48m (12.5%)
Emmerdale 8pm: 6.22m (29.3%)
BOAF: 4.29m (20.1%) , inc +1: 4.41m (20.74%)

Keeping Up With The Khans: 975k (4.4%)
First Dates: 1.11m (7.7%)

CBB: 2.24m (10.0%)
Thanks for these Score.

So as I originally thought, the first Emmerdale was ahead of EE. Wasn't expecting that.

Do you have Friday's tape-checked numbers for the ITV soaps please?

Friday ratings: Celebrity Big Brother bowed out with 2.52m (13.2%) excluding C5+1.
Pretty good rating. I thought it would have been higher though. Do we know what the +1 rating was for it yet?

From Hassaan

BBC One
Six Nations Rugby: 6.30m (34.0%)
The Voice UK: 6.59m (31.5%)

ITV (inc +1)
Ninja Warrior UK: 4.31m (21.1%)
Take Me Out: 3.69m (17.8%)
Jonathan Ross: 2.21m (11.7%)
Excellent for the Rugby. That's a great number. The Voice struggling by its own standards - but 6.6m is still a respectable number.

NW and TMO doing okay compared to how things were 12-months ago. JR show doing terribly as ever!

Indeed, a classic. ITV and BBC1 schedule was full of LE which was of no interest to me. Saturday TV in the early part of the year is pretty awful. The only LE show I enjoy is BGT.

Infact BBC2 and C5 were the best channels last night with a good balance of programmes.
Me too In fact it amazes me that the best programmes to watch on tv last night were the BBC2 repeats from earlier in the week and an old episode of Dads Army.

I doubt it? Its a shame because they had some decent stuff. World war II in colour, American's Hidden Pyramid City, football and then Law and Order. The fact viewers didn't flock to the channel says more about those viewers who watch LE pap. C5 should be applauded for offering something different to the main channels. C5 have really uped their game recently and should be commended.
Totally agree this, I am always after a variety of Programmes and BBC2 and Channel 5 were easily the best last night

BBC should bring back the generation game with either Miranda or Michael McIntyre to replace the voice next year.

I thought Miranda had said she didn't want to do it, don't know about McIntyre, suspect he would be good.

I can't believe how many people watch Ninja Warrior and Take Me Out. It's the exact definition of cheap and tacky television.

It was a big episode for Emmerdale with Aaron revealing what Gordon had done to him when he was younger and the fall out from that, so that explains the rise for Thursday and Friday.

Best not to bring it back, its been re hashed 3 times. Best to leave it alone.

That's why. On a Saturday night people don't want hard dramas. They want people you can laugh at.

Do they? Saturday night in new year never watch a minute of live TV. It's the worst night of the week. Stuck in 20th century with lightweight entertainment stuff. Thankfully now you can watch recorded tv or films or downloaded box sets.
