Looking to save money ?

Belts are tightening everywhere at the BBC, and not always in the right areas. What's happening to the BBC News channel is far worse than what's about to happen to BBC Three.

It's Countryfile's highest audience for ten years according to Broadcast.

Who knows what will be around if you make it into old age. One things for sure there will be no BBC or PSB. If the Tories get their way all channels will be sold off to the highest bidder and like football clubs will be foreigned owned.

...and then when you look at the article itself, it says at least ten years, which is presumably as far back as their data access allows.

Expect Seaham to have a massive influx of tourists after last nights programme.

They don't automatically say we want older viewers but their programmes just have that appeal. ITV's best rated programmes have appeal across several demos. They used to be really good at making programmes that appealed to lots of ages.

BBC2 was better at getter younger viewers in its nineties/noughties pomp. BBC3 ruined everything.

I thought it would be it's highest ever, but then it would probably be getting higher in it's old daytime slot in the 4 channel era

That's because the vested interests driving the anti-BBC lobby are led by the newspapers. Murdoch and co actively want a weakened BBC news, with the ultimate goal that the public pay them for they currently consume via the Licence Fee. And of course, what they charge (subscription, paywalls, etc.) will be significantly higher than the LF ...

Have you even seen C5's daytime ratings for Saturday or is that just a convenient assumption you are making as a hugely passionate ITV enthusiast?

How does the BBC2 Superbowl compare to Channel 4 figures. Does it warrant a move up to BBC1?

On Channel 4 it was getting 600k-670k the last couple of years.

The year before that (2013) it was on BBC2 and got 700k.

In 2011 & 2012 it was on BBC1 and got 1.01m in 2011 overnight figure.

2008-10 it was on BBC2 and got 700k-900k across those three years.

So it got a bit of an expected BBC bounce but performing pretty consistently compared to the overall last 8 years. It was moved back to BBC2 in 2013 after they started showing MOTD2 on BBC 1.

Tbf yes it is an assumption, but I can't see any of the benefit programme rpt's doing that well in daytime/early evening.

But yes that statement I made is not 100% certain.

That has to be Countryfile's best ever rating. I don't think it was getting that at lunchtime in the early 90s.

Thought so. Could be right, but it was a nice line without anything to back it up.

Five is massively underperforming on Saturday nights, of that there is no doubt. A similar situation to ITV and Tuesdays.

But let's not kid ourselves into believing that ITV is doing especially well. Let's not forget that opposite Take Me Out: The Gossip on the main channel was The Jonathan Ross Show which has been mustering not much more than 2m.

So the combined ITV and ITV2 audience is still worse than what ITV alone should be getting in that slot. Eek!

The Keith Lemon Sketch Show continued the trend on ITV2 for underperfmong returning shows. His show reterrned with 540k

Less than the 1m who watch the 1st ep of series 1.

ITV2 seriously needs to breath new life into the channel.

Andrew Davies, who adapted War and Peace for the BBC, is now working on a non-musical version of Les Miserables according to press reports. Could be interesting.

Celebrity Big Brother hit 3.32m for the episode on Sunday 31st January, the second highlights show of the series to narrowly outrate the launch show.

Overall a strong set of officials for that week boosts the show's series average to 2.82m, with five more ratings to come. Previous series averages for the January version on C5:

CBB9: 2.60m
CBB11: 2.81m
CBB13: 3.07m
CBB15: 3.09m

A consistent beast.

Silent Witness timeshifts like crazy! Impressive! Death In Paradise has lost a little shine but still a good rating overall, likewise with Call The Midwife. The Real Marigold Hotel is one of the standout ratings of the week. BBC2 shows don't usually add that much.
