Based on the 5.5m SD figure and 800k +1 figure with HD guesstimated at 800k-1m, Vera shoud be looking at a consolidated figure of roughly 7.1m-7.3m inc+1.

With CTM at 9.5m that is a fantastic opposite the BBC's biggest drama.

So with 5 officials left it looks like a 2.8m average in line with CBB8 and 11. Can't complain.

Sad news is Broadcast says the final only got 2.6m with +1

Couldn't have done it without the ongoing support of ITV's This Morning, Daily Mail Online and many others, and a bit of luck in generating the storylines required to capture that sort of interest in the first place.

Agree with this. There was more support and promo than usual which helped it generally increase throughout

I was disappointed when I first looked at that figure. However there have been some very impressive timeshifts this year, Friday's first show timeshifted 860k and the second show fared even better time shifting 900k!!. It would be great to see a big timeshift for the final as well...

I guess the Saturday shows bring it down a bit being shown at 10.30 is unfortunate

Eurosport up to 0.74% share for the final week of the Australian Open. A massive 85% gain on the equivalent week in 2015 when the BBC had some live rights.

Only very narrowly pipped by Sky Sports 1 (which scored 0.75%), but comfortably ahead of all the other Sky and BT owned sports channels.

I think your figures will be about right for Vera and I agree it is very good indeed, which goes to show if ITV show a quality drama that is established they will get decent numbers no matter what the opposition is.

If we went back say 15 years the reverse would be the case. ITV would rule supreme. You would say that BBC1 did well against Vera on ITV with CTMW getting Vera's rating and vice versa. Sadly ITV have only themselves to blame for their decline and the label that is attached to the channel.

Sadly when they launch a new quality drama they may struggle to get a big audience which is a shame.

H I'm a little confused. Didn't Vera get 4.7 excluding +1, and based on the 800k +1 and 1m for HD, the figure would be 6.5 million ?

I was just looking at Hassaans figures

20:00 - Vera: 5.39m (22.2%) - 4.68m (19.3%) exc. +1

That series was over 5 years ago and i imagine ITV at the time thought it was best to leave it as a one-off.

Wainwright was speaking historically this month about the decision to cancel Unforgiven- it originally aired in 2009 which was seven years ago.

Basically she had intended to write a second series but ITV said no. It would have made sense to me - the first series was fantastic viewing, a ratings winner and in my opinion ended very abruptly with plenty more story on how this woman was going to cope in society and rebuild her life.

I'd have liked to have seen more of Ruth Slater

Mind you, if ITV had said yes to another series or two perhaps Suranne Jones' would never have been inspired to propose "Scott & Bailey" to one of Wainwright's collaborators, Nicola Schindler

CUT TO:

INT. ITV HQ. DAY.
Kevin Lygo's reading the Radio Times website, picks up the phone.

KEVIN: Steve? Quick - call Sally Wainwright ... Yes, it may be seven years too late, but we need a hit!

I think the moment has definitely passed now sadly. It rated really well, I always thought it never came back just because it was a one off series, not because ITV said no.

I suspect now they'd renew it without question. But of course back in 2009 ITV didn't have a pot to piss in and were struggling to afford much drama at all.

I don't think ITV ever intended it to be more than a one-off but I agree, they likely couldn't afford another series at the time. I do think some shows are best left as a one-off, sometimes it can be successful like Broadchurch but other times like Prey, it can fall flat.

Holy smokes!

Based on overnights, Countryfile is now the most watched show of the year!”

Biggest overnight rating of the year so far?! That's very impressive stuff. 8.7m is a huge rating.

Thanks for these two ratings Dancc.

Both doing decently enough and timeshifting well. Both had very good episodes last night too.

Roscoe, do you have any ITV ratings?”

Yes, lewie. Here you go...

Coronation Street (Mon 19.30): 8.75m (37.3%)
Vera (Sun): 7.38m (24.7%)
Emmerdale (Mon): 7.25m (33.1%)
Midsomer Murders (Wed): 6.47m (24.5%)
Benidorm (Mon): 5.95m (20.6%)
Ninja Warrior (Sat): 4.62m (22.0%)
Mr Selfridge (Fri): 4.61m (18.1%)
Birds Of A Feather (Thu): 4.42m (17.5%)

All ratings include HD & +1

Nothing for Jericho this week. But I know it’s definitely less than 4.20m.

Does anyone have the tape-checked numbers for Emmerdale and Coronation Street for Friday 5th February? Thanks.

Surely the current series of Jump will be the end of the road for it, regardless of ratings? Or are they going to wait until someone gets paralysed?!

I sense it's only really on because C4 are not coping terribly well with the thought of their rivals having success with Celebrity Big Brother. If having a celeb show in January wasn't obvious enough, then having McCall to host it leaves very little doubt.

Talking of US imports, two shows returned for new seasons in the most recent BARB week.

Fox welcomed Agent Carter back to its schedules for its second season in a new Thursday night slot, watched by a consolidated audience of 500,000. This is +8% up on the season 1 premiere in July.

At the same time on More4, The Good Wife was back for season 7 watched by 826,000 (inc. +1). A strong start for it, and it appears to be up a good bit year-on-year although it's hard to ascertain by how much due to a late night repeat confusing matters this time last year.

Just as I suspected. Sunday's Countryfile rating was its highest ever.
