Rugby League 2016
New season, new thread
Went to the KC today for the Clive Sullivan Trophy - local derby friendly. Hull beat Rovers 60-20. We were woeful, absolutely shocking. 2 friendlies and 100 points conceded. Worrying. Hull on the other hand looked good, could be a top 4 outside bet this season. Sneyd kicked 10 out of 10 and his partnership with Pryce worked well but man of the match was Frank ( the Tank ) Pritchard. Watch out for him this season. Chris Chester is the bookies favourite to be the first SL coach to lose his job. After today it could be very soon. |

Asking fans from both sides today about their prediction for the season
General consensus is Hull could be top 4, Rovers bottom 4. |

FC, you can never tell. For years now they have been so inconsistent. Are they relying on Leon Pryce again? Cos if so, then no chance of the top four,
KR, again, you can never tell. I'm looking forward to seeing what the influence of Peacock does for the club. Rovers were shocking, I know we are without Campese, Larroyer and Lunt at the moment but we just have not made as many big signings. Two warm up games and 100 points conceded is worrying. JP is football manager, apparently he isn't involved in team training etc. That may change soon |

And already an NRL "lewd conduct" scandal, these people must have the brains of sea anemones.

Big season for us this year. We've made some potentially great signings; Lineham, Westerman, Julien, Gidley, and one absolutely bizarre one in Ryan Bailey.
If we can't do anything this year, then unfortunately I can see Tony Smith going. We have the players to get there, it's just that when we do, we seem to clam up. We should have won in 2013, not to mention been in the last couple of challenge cup finals, so it's definitely going to be a huge year with a lot of expectation put on us. I'm assuming Phil Clarke will be tipping Salford to win the Grand Final again this year. P***k.

http://www.skysports.com/rugby-leagu...ky-sources-say Quote:
Wayne Bennett is to replace Steve McNamara as England coach, according to Sky sources. The RFL finally getting a proper coach in charge? About time!!!McNamara's future has been unclear since his contract expires in the wake of a 2-1 series victory over New Zealand in the autumn. And it is understood Bennett, the Brisbane Broncos coach who was previously in charge of Australia, will be appointed next month ahead of this year's Four Nations. The 66-year-old is the most successful coach in Australian rugby league with seven Grand Final wins, six as Broncos boss and one with St George Illawara. His Brisbane side is due to take on Wigan in the World Club Series on February 20, live on Sky Sports. McNamara combined the England role with his job at Sydney Roosters and remains in charge of the NRL side. Mixed feelings Sky's rugby league pundit Brian Carney believes that it would be a huge plus if Bennett was appointed, but wonders if England's coach is not a lot closer to home. "If it is confirmed that Wayne Bennett is to be the new England coach it gives me mixed feelings, " said Carney. "On the one hand you have arguably the greatest coach in the history of the game, a man committed to the international game, lending his expertise, experiences and aura to the English national team which believe will inspire every single player that plays for him. I would have considered it a career highlight to have been coached by Wayne. "That should see England performances lift to the levels needed to win the Four Nations. On the other hand I feel that Brian McDermott or Shaun Wane may have also been able to lift the English team up a notch too. "They are successful coaches who rate in my book as leaders of men. They have what I see as important attributes for a national team coach. Brian has been appointed coach of the USA but I would imagine this would have been the international job he wanted and was best suited to. "Shaun Wane may be the man appointed to assistant to Wayne Bennett. Could Wayne be assistant to Wane in the way he helped Stephen Kearney and the Kiwis? That would be brilliant planning for the national teams future. "Wayne is coaching royalty but might the true heir apparent to the head coaches throne be in Wigan…or Leeds?" One thing though Wayne Bennett has a very intense high profile job at the Broncos. Where does he find time to do that as well as watch Superleague. |

I didn't see the game at all - just noticed the score at the time.
Very valid point though. |

Summer sport hey.
SL should start in March. In 1996 it was 29th March. Starting early Feb and conditions like in Wigan tonight is ridiculous. |

McGuire out until April. Big blow for Leeds. Not sure who we'll go with now. The club last year put their faith in Sutcliffe, so might carry on with that, but Lilley has shown up better (for me) so perhaps he might get his chance?

NRL Auckland 9's tonight. Should be a fun weekend.
Premier sports are killing it with the RL programming this year. So much stuff from Australia. |
