A draw would be a hugely positive result, a win would be just a dream sadly.

It's always like this. England out-perform themselves, look good for 60 minutes, then Australia score three tries in five minutes and normal service resumes.

Great try, great pass to open up the defense!

Uh-oh, here we go.....

England going for seven points, Jonathan?

Is there a lack of fitness or Aussies just upped their game?

Shame that we are not in the final, but it was always going to be a huge ask for us to get there, as the Aussies are a very well drilled machine, and we are just a collection of good players, with no real outstanding one, that they are scared or worried about.

Be interesting to see quite how full Anfield gers, now that we are not there, hopefully still a decent crowd between the two super powers.

That is just so sad, they are an historic club, I hope that something can be done to help them out.

England just seemed unable to match the Aussies. Panic passing when they did press the Roo's line. Usual run of penalties. Twice our kicker missed the touch line when we got penalties.

Just over 35,000 there which was well short of last year's game against the Kiwis. When will the RFL learn that just announcing where the games are going to be played is not enough - they have to advertise. I suppose it didn't help with it being such a stupid kick off time and on a Sunday.

Certainly didn't help us. We bought out train tickets when the kick off was at three o'clock so we could get them as cheap as possible. Our train was due in at 12.45, which still should have meant we could get to the game in time.

Sadly, we were delayed at Hartford North for 105 minutes and ended up watching the second half on TV in a pub near Kings Cross. Very annoying.

(and then, thinking it was the later kick off time, we were booked on the 10pm train home and that was delayed by an hour too! Worst away day ever.)_

They are consistently one of the best sporting teams on the planet but we do not do ourselves any favours and nor does international rugby league.

We do not play enough as a country or even an equivalent origin format. We should play at least one summer international away to France say for the Super League players. The England V the S.L Australian players was an OK idea, better than nothing. Carney, Gidley, Kelly are world class players, Fifita. There are enough Aussies who would love a cap to make an evenly matched game.

You could just about make an England team now with NRL players with Reed, Hardaker, Burgess, Heighington thrown in, top it up half a dozen super league player for the rep weekend they have in NRL before the Origin series.

Smith and Cronk, play as a unit for their club, state and country, Thurston, Boyd and Inglis do for their country and three origin matches a year. That is the core of their team. You cannot compete with that, but you can make more of an effort.

I don't know why the Origin sides do not play more than three matches a year. Instead of a four nations tournament every year other than a World Cup, England, New Zealand, Queensland and New South Wales would be pretty appealing.

Then Australia don't get to play as a national side and you are depraving us seeing the best team in the world.

I like the tours, like last year NZ playing a 3 match series against England here. Always exciting stuff.

England, for my money, didn't pick the best players and Wayne Bennett didn't know his best side. When the Man of Steel is left out yet a few players who played in the qualifiers are in the squad, you question the selection.

It would only be once every four years that you would have it. Have the World Cup every four years and that in between each one. Have a four nations in the other two seasons too. It would work brilliantly.

The minnows (everyone other than the Top 3) could have a tournament simultaneously. It woulbe good to see Scotland, Samoa or PNG have a chance of winning the tournament.

I'm not overly keen on Bennett but England traditionally are very weak in the backs compared to the SH sides.

We have endless forwards who go over to the NRL and don't just play well but are superstars. Morley, Ellis, Burgess, Graham have all been as good as there is. Whitehead, Hodgson, Cooper are twice the players they were before going.

The backs have never been able to compete. Its hard to get a superstar like Johns, Fittler, Lockyer, Smith but even the good ones like Tomkin's, Jurgess are a long way short of the Aussie backs. We have two decent wingers, I like Widdop, Jack Reed should still be involved, hopefully Hardaker will improve but 1-7 need to be much better to compete.

What rotten luck, Gulftastic. You must have been really p**d off.

We met up with three friends who came down from Wigan but they made a weekend of it. They stayed in a hotel (Holiday Inn I think) at Stratford not far from the stadium. Not sure how far in advance of the game they booked but they did it last year for the Kiwi game. Might be something for you to think about if the RFL hold another game at Stratford,

Agree with the comments that England need more international matches or at least more matches as a team. Not sure if an Origin type competition would be any good. My idea would be England V. The Rest in a three game series and do away with the "Eights" system but that will probably be knocked down by the Clubs who will start bleating about loss of revenue and risk to players.

It was good stuff.

I was also impressed by the organisation of Liverpool itself. Outside Liverpool Lime Street station, there were stewards directing the crowd to where the buses to Anfield left from, and the queue was superbly done, with up to four buses arriving at a time, then they filled all four at once, depending on which one you were stood next to. It was the same after the match, and made it really easy to get there.

Sad news about the Bradford Bulls. Financially they have been struggling for a few years. I always presumed somebody would come up with the money. The fans of the Bulls and rugby league ggenerally deserve to know what went wrong.

If the club is reformed, I wonder how competitive it will be. The -12 points deduction surely means it won't be competing for Superleague next season.
