Laughing at someone being insulted over their appearance IS bullying.

There is intent to cause upset.

So my point stands. Anyone laughing at someone being targeted over their insecurity makes them no better. So anyone who cheered on and openly supported Tiff and Steph calling Gemma a fat smelly **** across these forums is no better than Gemma herself. Its gang mentality and just because you are hiding behind a computer screen doesn't make it any less hurtful. It just makes the person a coward which is what bullies are.

The truth obviously hurts.

I've mainly been talking about viewers and whether their comments could be conceived as bullying.

People inside the House, yes referring to her weight is a form of bullying but they are using it as a way of attacking her due to how she has been treating them. So yes, it is a bullying tactic, a weapon but they are not bullying her BECAUSE of her weight. If she had been a nicer person, I very much doubt it would have come up.

Itk4 the same as Gemma and Daniella using her having a boyfriend and carrying on with Jeremy as a way of attacking Steph. They are,'t bullying her because of it, but it is a useful weapon to attack her with. Or Gemma referring to Steph's 'cheap' make up.

Who are you talking about now? Forum members of housemates? Because I don't remember anyone in the house laughing at any of the very occasional 'fat' comments.

If you're talking about forum members then I'm not sure how it can be bullying given that people are making the assumption is that she will not read them. Therefore there is no 'intent to cause upset', just people being loose-lipped. You could say it's inappropriate for many, many reasons, potentially even damaging in a wider context, but it's not bullying. If you're going to make grand statements it's helpful to be quite rigorous in your reasoning.

As for laughing at the fat insults I'll admit I've laughed at a few, but it's generally due to someone being witty, or creative with their wording, or conjuring up absurd imagery. Sure, only a tiny part is childishly due to the taboo nature of mentioning the elephant in the room that we're not supposed to acknowledge (and no, I'm not calling Gemma an elephant) but I have a weakness for all things innapropriate.


BiB - are you talking in general here or is this directed at me? Because I haven't once called Gemma a fat c*** or cheered anyone on for doing so. I haven't even called her a c*** and a c*** she most definitely is.

Furthermore, given that she's made it her USP I'm not sure you can really consider it to be an insecurity of hers. Like someone else pointed out it's her brand.

Bullying is something much, much worse than this money making exercise from a delusional cow who actually sees herself as wonderful.

Bullying isn't calling someone a name once to their face, it certainly isn't calling someone a name behind their back, no matter how many times you repeat it. Bullying is intimidation and harassment, belittling someone and baiting them all of which Gemma has done in the house.

Agree. The word bully is thrown about so much theses days that it's become almost meaningless and it's an insult to real victims of genuine bullying to say that a few cheap shots being thrown at a sorry excuse for a human is anything like bullying.

In my day, there was a saying about sticks and stones which some might be well to recall.

I'm not saying that bullying can't include name calling, of course it can, but it's much, much worse than a few jibes about someones weight, most of which are said out of her earshot anyway
