Newsnight's Emily Maitlis "A BBC boss told me I had to do Strictly"
I'm sure she's on record as saying she'd love to do it, but maybe this is why....??

It seemed a lot of fuss about nothing. Someone pointed it would help her career which it certainly would. Trashy papers like the Mail have tried to twist this to be someone trying to force her to do it against her will which the feminists have jumped on - probably get Harriet Harperson asking about it in PMQs on Wednesday.

I must admit I saw Emily's enthusiasm at the time as genuine....though it's entirely possible producers are encouraged to "cross-pollinate" their shows/stars/presenters
![]() I'd love to see her on the show - she has a lovely wry sense of humour. |

The same thing happened to Natasha Kaplinsky . Those BBC bosses are autocratic, bullies .

Expect similar stories and those on other Strictly topics, to be progressively released by the BBC PR "smoke and mirrors" machine as we progress towards the next series.

Think perhaps we're over thinking this?
A BBC boss said to a serious journalist that if she did Strictly it would raise her profile. Well yes - am sure others would agree. John Sargeant was Chief Political Editor and Correspondent for ITV and BBC News and Jeremy Vine takes a big part in the BBC's Election coverage. Did Strictly raise their profiles? Natasha Kaplinsky did well out winning Strictly - she did Tess's job for Series 2. Susanna Reid was offered a better paid job at ITV after being runner up. Was Emily forced to do Strictly - no, because she hasn't done Strictly. Did Emily still get one of the top BBC serious journalist's jobs anyway - presenting Newsnight - yes. |
