“Chris Chibnall has said that he would like the show to be a lot more Adult.

"It has the capacity to be very adult" he said "It's just a question of taking it there"

A BBC spokeman has told us that Chibnall is pushing for a post Watershed slot for his first season. "Chris is pushing for a post 9pm slot" said our Source "Possibly even 10pm".

Our Source continued "This would allow the show to explore many area's that in it's family orientated past it's been unable to."

So does this mean we may see a physical relationship between the Doctor and a companion?

Our Source refused to clarify but did say the relationship between the Doctor and her companion would be like none seen on the show so far.

Current Doctor Peter Capaldi apparently said upon hearing the news

"More adult? Does that mean I can swear again? ****ing Brilliant!"

Hopefully more false flags, as much as I've loved Series 9 and found it some of the best quality the show's been since it came back, the airing times being so late have really nulled the family experience to it. I can only imagine how disappointing it would be for children everywhere to be told they couldn't watch Doctor Who anymore because it wasn't suitable for them.

That supposed quote from Capaldi also doesn't sound like him at all.

And I hope "physical relationship" doesn't mean what I think it means because that was weird enough in The Dying Days.

I won't hold someone against comments they made 30 years ago, about a show that was in a very different place back then. It's been cancelled, transatlantic, revived and handed over since this recording... and I'm sure you end up with wildly different viewpoints when you're a fan who can ask for and demand anything, and a showrunner who has to adhere to rules, budgets and the demands of those fans and mainstream viewers.

Naturally, all the supposed 'source' comments about the show moving later, becoming more adult, and Capaldi's response to it... are blatantly made up bullsh*t. Post-10pm? Give me a break.

And in regards to the valid question of the thread itself, I'd say speculatively that Chibnall will more or less keep to the status quo. The show will remain family oriented. I can see a shift away from the darker, more intense storylines of Series 9 - we've already somewhat seen that shift with the recent Christmas special and I suspect Moffat may also deliver on that in Series 10. The show ebbs in and out of phases of light-heartedness, darkness, substance, shallow stylistic choices and so on... Chibnall's Who will continue that ever-changing process and become its own thing in its own time - adhering of course to the basic principle that it shouldn't be too dark, but it can't afford to be too unsubstantial either

is this a joke? Its too late now. How can they make it more adult than it is now? Sex scenes?

This is the exact OPPOSITE of the others rumors. lol...wanting to make it more "Family friendly"

They can make it more adult in many ways.

But there is almost no way Chibnall will be able to get the show to 9-10pm time slot, it is a family show.

But for hypothetical reasons we assume this rumour to be true, the reason it will have been done is to get a new audience and to increase ratings and all of that which is probable if it becomes more adult. As many popular shows are generally darker in tone.

Which ways? After death, destruction, resurrection, living death, hell, murder, nightmares and more death etc what's left?

I can't believe anyone is taking this cr#p this seriously. Does anything from the twittersphere ever have any credibility (let alone value)? It's full of worthless gossip and nothing else.

It's laughable! It's just the 21st century version of the "chattering classes".

More violence, the show does all of that you mentioned but does it in a much more tame way.

They can make it more realistic and by that i mean it hits you much harder emotionally, not more realistic in terms of the sci fi factor and what not. For example, when Moffat did this with the 3W's or whatever they were called and how the dead can still feel, that is what i mean by playing on things we can relate too. And did you see the backlash from that?

But the big difference is just a more constant adult tone, for the lack of a better term isto extend the emotional impact throughout stories, instead of exploring the idea and making it all happy and good by the time of the next episode. That is what it comes down too really, the tone of the series and how they deal with the emotional side of it.

I've just read that in an effort to make the show appeal to a broader audience the BBC have just signed an exclusive deal with Aardman Animations to make the next five series out of clay.

Spoiler
Not really. I just make this sh** up.

Can we make one super mega thread where people can dump all the Twitter/Tumblr/my girlfriends best friend works in.../Anything posted by G, Sales stuff so some of us know how to avoid it? The next two years are going to be unbearable if someone starts a new thread every time some anonymous glory seeker decides to pass a few idle minutes by making up a complete load of s*****. I dont think the spoiler thread counts as that should at least contain things with a semblance of reality. This stuff is beyond a joke.

Yesterday the show is being turned into a Marvel-esque money grabbing exercise and aimed at the young and vacuous teen market. A day later its now heading for a post watershed slot (as if) and aiming for gritty adult HBO style thrills? Do me a favour. Its pathetic.

People are so often sceptical of the tabloids (understandable) and mock them and yet look how often the Mirror have gotten things right in the last few years. There hit rate has been pretty good. Compared to Anons on social media the tabloid press might as well be an oracle of truth and justice. Tumblr/IMDB/Facebook- 99% of the time its utter fabrication.

Are you sure this isn't partly true? Because I read something similar in a comments thread on Cultbox from BowtiesRCool94 except they it said the animation style was going to be more mid-sixties Ukrainian new wave with the use of puppets and mixed media.

Really you do despair. I noticed even DS was using an IMDB edit as the basis for an entire article. I ask you! I remember one of the first things they taught us in HIstory at Primary School,,,yes Primary School...was about evaluating the worth of sources and evidence and texts. Have they stopped teaching that since I left school?

That Capaldi 'quote' is cringe-inducingly obvious in its falseness.

EDIT- please note I am not having a go at the OP who I know to be a fine fellow of considerable integrity. I am talking about the wider 'social media' culture.

I find it utterly baffling that anyone takes this sort of nonsense seriously. But somehow, some people do.

Mind you, they are often the sort of people who'd believe you if you said that the word 'gullible' had been removed from dictionary...

I heard it was going to be more a mash up of Fingerbobs meets the Clangers, but edgy and adult, you know, with swearing and sh*t.

All I need to do is post that on Twitter with the added words - "Official - Chris Chibnall says..." and some idiot will probably repost it as a 'fact'...

Quite so. The OP is a jolly decent chap!

I just wish I'd thought of adding something like that to my poster earlier....

Don't forget the all important pull quote from Peter Capaldi-

Capaldi, a committed Scotsman, was quoted as saying 'Och aye, there's nae danger of me leaving Doctor Who anytime soon. I would have to be a proper numpty. I ******** love swearing and I ********* love puppets! So i'm pure belter laddie!'

Indeed - though I think that the at the end of the original post says all we need to know about Corwin's views on this silly matter.

Indeed. I was reacting to others who'd apparently taken it seriously.

Yes this is a joke thread.

I was curious how many people would take it seriously even though there's no actual real links to anything apart from a video from 30 years ago where Chris Chibnall makes the remarks I quoted.

Being serious though it will be interesting if Chibnall still has these same views or does he think current DW is adult enough.

Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch, Torchwood, Camelot) is the new showrunner from 2018 (he'll start production on Series 11 in 2017).

Maybe Torchwood will get a fifth season featuring Jenna?

Very funny thread! Not least because it implied the BBC press team is suddenly so loose lipped they will pass on anything to the media.

If anything, the stories and comments I've heard point to Chibnall moving the show back to a more family friendly and accessible tone. I would imagine the return to spring will make it earlier in the evening schedule too.
