Words fail me. Stephanie thought that the name Nigella Lawson was probably that of 'the' President. 'Sounds like he's a President anyway'.

'Rapeseed Oil' she pronounced Rapseed and said 'What's this oil - some sort of Jurassic Park crap?'

I dare not add comments to the above - don't trust myself!

She didn't see her face, Jeremy was commenting on her cooking and comparing it to Nigella.

It's not even funny how ignorant and dopey so many of these young people are, and they seem to be quite proud of it rather than ashamed or embarrassed about it. It's very depressing.

Surely she is playing the "lovable eejit" card..... no-one can really be that stupid can they??

To be fair I think she heard it as Nigel so she was kind of on the right track politician wise - the name may have rung a bell - but we don't have bloody presidents here lol.

It would appear that singing and dancing took precedence over basic education.

I don't think she was putting it on to be endearing - I just think she probably missed a lot of school.

If you've not heard of Nigella Lawson or Rapeseed Oil - it's not really the end of the world is it?

It could be if Nigella has the nuclear button.

There are thousands of them out there who have virtually zero, common knowledge or common sense.

I hate the comment
"Its not really the end of the world is it"
Well TBH it is these are our future, these youngsters who are just fame hungrey will be the so called end of the world.
I am glad I am not going to be around to see it.

Like it was mentioned to busy trying to be famous than actually getting some sort of education, it so sad really.

Hmm I didn't see/notice the comment broadcast so am not clear of the context.

Not necessarily entirely ignorant. Nigella's father - Nigel Lawson was Chancellor of the Exchequer/Minister for Energy for a very long time; almost a decade. It was before she was born but even so its possible that this has lodged in her mind.

Yes the young of today are our future. Steph does have a talent for singing and dancing and she's followed that path as lots of others have done before her. She's messed up her opportunities and seems to have faltered along the way but hopefully she's young enough to sort herself out.

I'm confident we have enough young people around who'll be our scientists/doctors/politicians of tomorrow. A young woman not knowing what Rapeseed oil is or who Nigella Lawson is doesn't fill me with thoughts of doom and gloom for the future - hence my comment 'not the end of the world'.

I do understand though - there are some sayings I can't stand either.

Reminds me off a few years ago, 1 housemate (a girl in her 20's) didn't know eggs came from chickens.

I think that's what she's doing. For the Nigella Lawson comment anyway. I don't think it's actually that weird that she hasn't heard of rapeseed oil.

Some stuff comes with maturity though doesnt it? With the lifestyle Steph has lived so far Nigella Lawson or even cooking programmes may not have featured at all in her life. I never watched them at that age. Nigella probably would seem like Fanny Craddock was in my day - old and boring to someone like Steph.

I remember being 22 and someone asking me what make of washing machine I thought was the best. I hadnt a flippin' clue about washing machines!! Now, in my ripe old age I can reel off the pro's and cons of them all - how sad is that .

Now that is ridiculous - my two year old grandson knows that. Its a basic thing we teach children in infancy with nursery rhymes etc.

Well, in the context of the future generation and our future politicians, wasn't it Noel last summer on civilian BB (the aspiring Prime Minister himself) who didn't know that eggs didn't come out of chickens mouths or some such thing?

There you go, we have lack of general knowledge and political aspiration all in one neatly packaged person

To be fair a decade (or less) ago I suspect few of us had heard of rape seed oil as a cooking ingredient. I am getting ahead of the curve and acquainting myself with flax oil which I predict will be the next shi-shi, must-have culinary ingredient. Although equally, it might be that lard makes a come back!!

*Makes note of flax oil to look like I know what I'm talking about*

What's weird is that she'd seen the word written down on the bottle and still pronounced it wrong, even though it's pronounced as it's written. Even if she'd never heard of rapeseed oil, I'd expect her to look at the word and pronounce the first part correctly.
