I really don't understand why some people have such a problem not having heard of some of the celebs. (Not you lundavra- others in the media

) Because one person's "nobody" is someone else's "famous" and vice versa. And 2 weeks into the series, who cares? You know them well enough by then. And since SCD is the UK's top-viewed show, clearly it matters not a jot.
Equally- just because you haven't heard of this Mans guy, doesn't mean that many others haven't. I'd never heard of Jay McGuiness until Strictly, but I was aware of the winner of Eurovision. And they've had non-Brits before: Martina Hingis, Jerry Hall, Nancy Dell'Olio, Michelle Williams.
The only way a celeb would be known by everyone is if they were mega-famous, and the mega-famous don't need or want the job.
And those that say that people with a higher profile have an advantage over those that don't- it didn't help Peter Andre or Emma Bunton and it didn't hinder Darren Gough or Chris Hollins. Once you're on the show- you're famous.
Ever since pro-celebrity golf, people have been going, "Who?"
