These are half open quotes in the Daily Mirror, so not necessarily what Ashley actually said - but maybe he is willing to do it if asked? He is now a Game Show Presenter with Zoe Ball on the BBC.

Turning to Strictly Come Dancing, Ashley admitted he would love to take part on the popular BBC Saturday night show, but added: “I don’t think I would be too good [as a dancer to do it] – I think the disciplines are completely different.

“But at the same time, can you imagine me – a professional dancer most of my life – going on Strictly? There would be all sorts of claims of it being ‘unfair’ or a ‘fix', flaming pitchforks outside my house!

“I’ve never been approached to do it before. But now I’m a BBC presenter I might have to do it – maybe it’s part of my contract!”

Fingers crossed then, maybe Zoe will have a word As he's male, good looking and nice he may escape the ringer backlash anyway.

It's very difficult to find men who can dance. They could bring in women who are likely to be good at dancing too to create a more even contest - and they are not so difficult to find. eg. Lisa Mason on Victoria Derbyshire last year.

I'd like them to go back to trying to teach the 10 dances even 'Strictly' levels of correctly, but TPTB seem to have largely given up on that as being important. It would even things out if they had to learn the dances correctly as they would all not have any experience of that type of dancing. We saw last year that Jay found Ballroom difficult to master, despite having a natural aptitude for other types of dancing.

Paul Burrell is apparently on a potential BBC shortilist of names for the show.

Aren't we coming up to Strictly Silly Season, where any celeb/wannabe celeb who wants a bit of press column inches just drops 'would like to do Strictly' or 'has been approached by Strictly' (which usually means their agent has said they are willing and the Strictly Booking Elves are making like the Smash men) because it guarantees a name drop for them?

(On the other hand, how funny would it be to hear Alan Dedicoat intoning would The Miserabe Little Worm and his partner please take to the dance floor )

Could turn out to be the most unpopular contestant ever.

Oh what fun to be had on the Non-App thread!

You saying that almost makes me want it to be a thing that happens!

Just imagine the Strictly theming: Paul serving drinks to a tiara wearing Natalie as he slowly dances a rumba around her, with British Grenadiers as backing dancers or Paul dressed as 'a rock'.

That would be the time for a potty break. Scrapping the bottom of the cess pit if he is in the running.

Sounds like the Strictly producers wouldn't want him anyway after that (regardless as to his track record with swearing on live TV) - the programme is better off without him

Well he has been on Celebrity Big Brother, and we know how high the standards are on that. You can be a celebrity without having done anything meritorious.

According a tape the Sun has, he admitted to someone that he was a liar and perjurer, but claims he only said that to impress the man.

So maybe Mr Burrell RVM has a low opinion of himself?

Anyone think Katie Piper might make a nice candidate?

She'd probably be pretty good and would be a nice one for Gleb or Aljaz (I might be wrong but I think she's qutie tall)

He is a self-taught Street Dancer and danced Street Dance professionally for a few years. It seems very different to Ballroom and Latin dancing, and some of the Actresses they have had on the show have had years of dance training - also not in Ballroom or Latin, and some of them had danced professionally.

It could mean Natalie gets a chance once more?”

I'm on board with this! I think so long as you haven't done specifically ballroom and latin, that's all you can ask for. And personally, I wouldn't have a problem with someone like Aidan Turner or Mark Cavendish who both competed as children appearing on the show, but I know many on DS would think it would ruin the show to have people with any dance experience.

I think street dance is pretty different to latin and ballroom in all ways, so not toooo much of an advantage. People from all walks of life and with varying dance experience take up ballroom and latin as adults and enter competitions. Why not have strictly reflect that?

She's lovely. I'd love to see her on the show, not someone I'd ever considered either.

Michelle Dockery would be a fab signing. I wonder if she'd actually do it?

Louise Minchin from BBC Breakfast? There was a tiny joke about her dancing the other morning and she looked a bit embarrassed. Could be nothing but there is always one Beeb presenter type.

Rufus Hound and Richard Osman? Both love Strictly and are very much at ease with live telly.

I would like Rufus on strictly

Rufus must have been approached by Strictly casting people as he has won a Christmas special and has been on ITT.

Louise Redknapp also - she was on ITT last year and seemed keen.

I'd love to see Michelle Gayle (Sky news commentator and ex EastEnders) on the show. She was on Dancing on Wheels which was made by Brian Fortuna and was just a lovely dancer.

Now that Alison King (a.k.a. Carla Connor) has left Coronation Street, she might be considered for SCD? I could see her as a possible partner for either Aljaz or Gleb as she looks fairly tall.

I would also like to see Nina Wadia on the show if they have any more ex Eastenders cast members on.
