Beef jerky
Does anyone here love this as much as I do? The best brand is Mariani but it's expensive, over £10 on Amazon for a 255g bag. You can get small packs in supermarkets but still dear. Basically marinated preserved beef, usually made in Australia. Really lovely and a great snack. Lasts days in the fridge after opening.

I'm not a fan of the stuff they sell in supermarkets, I find it a bit too chewy and don't think the flavour is that great.
My mate has a dehydrator though and he makes his own and it's bloody lovely. |

The Mariani brand is far better than the smaller packets of other brands that I see in the supermarkets and hung on cards in corner shops

Proper beef jerky comes from Texas.
Google "Texas beef jerky." You can order it online (although you do run the risk of it getting confiscated by customs.) Trust me, you'll never eat supermarket supplied rubbish again. |

Prefer biltong which I get from a (fairly) local butcher who makes his own (£38 per kilo)

Prefer the beef nuggets to the jerky, that's more like something you give a dog.

I tried making my own in the oven. Part freeze the beef to slice thinly, marinade and hang over the bars of the oven shelves and cook low and slow with oven door open a crack.
Tasted lovely but too much faffing around and time consuming to do it again. Wild West is the best one I've found in the shops but damn expensive. |

I like spicy jerky. The best I've found is in one of the deli counters at Selfridge's, which I realise isn't very helpful to those who live outside London, but worth a detour if you're visiting.
Stay away from Trailhead jerky. I bought a load of packs in various flavours and it was so unpleasant I gave them away. |

The beef jerky available here is nowhere near as good as the stuff you can get in Canada and the States.

I've not tried it, to be honest.
