I absolutely LOVED this!
Rosemary Schraeger has always been a fave of mine. Genuinely shocked I enjoyed it so much! Does anyone know how many weeks it's on for? |

Its just as valid to say that our presence there prevented massacres and ethnic conflict.
![]() And as for famines the incidence of famine increased dramatically during British Rule and declined substantially since. |

No its not as valid to make that point at all and even if it is that is their business not the business of Europeans to be getting involved in.

Well I'm pleased about that , the ungrateful B------s India's president once undiplomatically dismissed Britain's aid efforts as "a peanut".

Thoroughly enjoyable first episode, and there are two more to go. I have always wanted to see India, and the responses of the celebs was just as I imagine mine would be.
Bobby George was the stand-out for me., What a nice guy. Thoroughly interesting and interested in everything around him, and I loved him asking the Maharani if she played darts!

I really enjoyed this.
I've always been a fan of Bobby George. No airs and graces at all. I can see trouble ahead with Myriam and Rosemary. Love India. |

Miriam "I don't do housework, isn't the caste system awful, I pay someone to do my skivvying for me" Morgoyles is just a fat old snob who thinks that talking about farting makes it all right.

Yes, MM and the chef woman got far too much air time! Hope the later programmes feature the other members of the group more. Most of the others were fine though. Bobby George, although I imagine not a highly educated man, seemed to have the best attitude. The havali (sp?) they were staying in looks quite nice, could see myself staying there (not to retire tho') |

I went India first time in my life in March (hottest time of the year)
I never wanted to go at all but i did since my family is there esp my grandad's The thing about India is, you can live a relaxed life compared to here... no worries about much (if u can cope with heat, health and so on) Its also great seeing India again like this... its brings back memories and the feeling of the smell, heat and ppl, and mega noise from traffics and unever roads and etc. |

Just caught most of the repeat, by accident.
Miriam can be annoying at times, mostly because she retreats into her act a lot when the camera's on and you can't always be sure what's her or the act. Obviously you're getting 'a version' of themselves, because there's a camera there and they're not at home. Anyway that was quite life affirming for some reason, don't know why. Anyone remember The Young Ones with old age celebs living together? http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1352287 Jan Leeming's fine looking woman, I must say. |

Love Rosemary.
Sylvester and Miriam are a bit useless but quite quirky I guess. The rest just seem open to most things and very nice people. |

But I enjoyed the others and how they interacted and learned about the Indians and their land . |

What is the Health System in India, presumably it is all private and you need money to see a doctor or go to hospital,? so would a British pensioner on limited income be able to afford good health care there.?

As to whether a pensioner could afford it, it depends on how ill you are and how much care you need. If you have a stay in hospital, that's when the costs start to rack up, especially in ITU or specialist care units. I have no idea whether you can take out long term medical/health insurance to pay out if you're ill, which would probably be worth investigating |

I'm expecting them to get onto the costs later on in the show.
Miriam and Bobby are slightly infirm so should be a good jumping off point for that subject. Then there's Wayne with his prostate cancer?? |

Just caught up on this today, have never wanted to go to India for a holiday, never mind live there.
And this programme has not changed my view, in fact all it did was show me what a dirty smelly shithole it is. |

I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next one.
At the start they said Pattie was 61, so not exactly an OAP but my goodness, she's as beautiful and graceful as ever she was. |

Wow! This clearly deserves some serious thought?! (But I still think that poor health might be a worry - are they pretty fit?)

Health care can be very good - it cost OH £800 for an op and a stay of 4 days in hospital. Dentists are very good and alot cheaper than UK - if I wanted lots of dental work done it would be cheaper to go to India for it and make it into a holiday. Health care for locals can be a nightmare with dirty hospitals and little equipment, depending where you live.
My Indian/UK born friends are able to retire to India without a problem but it is not easy if you have no Indian family connections. Legally foreigners are not allowed to buy property and many have been duped by not knowing the law and by corrupt lawyers and builders and the police are the most corrupt I have encountered anywhere. |
