Just watched episode 2 on catch up.

I am really enjoying the series - fascinating and enchanting.

The effect which the Taj Mahal had on them all was very moving.

As was the diet. Well, in Miriam's case anyway.

I get the feeling Miriam would enjoy that joke as well.

The Taj Mahal is very beautiful if a little crowded. There is a seat just inside the entrance called Princess Diana's seat where you queue up to sit and have a portrait taken by a professional photographer. Only thing is it isn't Diana's seat, that is further back halfway along the gardens.

Jan Leeming loked so sad when she mentioned that her ex husband was cremated the day before theybarrived at the Taj Mahal. It was a very touching scene.

I think her ex husband was Eric Steenson who died in Aug 2015. He was a red arrows pilot.

Really enjoying this series and for some of them it seems to be a real life changer which is interesting to watch.

I thought that Miriam would be a highlight of the show but she has become tiresome due to the fact that she only talks about pissing, shitting and farting.

Having communicated with Miriam for some time last year mention of farting never passed her lips once, if she did pass wind never smelt it.

Is all Mira talks about or what the producers have chosen highlight?

If we take what the programme emphasises about each person..Wayne only talks about the spirit of humid, that the chef lady only talks about keeping busy and that Jan only talks about men and being alone.

Not just this programme but when I have seen her on various chat shows, she is just as vulgar.

I have found Miriam amusing, incredibly honest, direct and interesting. Yes if I was with her and she started talking about farting etc I would be embarrassed and uncomfortable but she more than makes up for it in other ways. She's eccentric and forthright and obviously many would find that too much but although I didn't expect to like her have found she has definitely grown on me.

Jan I still have mixed feelings about, I sympathise up to a point, and she too is being honest - up to a point! I wish she would look outside of herself more
.
Rosemary still seems wound up all the time, that must be wearing for both her and her companions.

I hope next week they concentrate a bit more on Patti and Sylvester etc.

What I like though is that non of them seem to be competing for attention. Some are more naturally 'bossy' than others, some more able to deal with whatever situation they find themselves in. It all seems to be what is natural to them though and not them putting on a 'show' for the cameras.

It's a pity it is such a short series I could happily watch this for a few more weeks.

I've just spent a lovely two hours catching up on the first two programmes.

I absolutely LOVE IT! Miriam and Rosemary make me laugh. They're all so individual characters, it makes fascinating watching.

Like JR said above, I wish this was on for longer.

With regards to Miriam, what you call eccentric and forthright, I would call desperate and attention seeking. I must have seen her on shows about 10 times these last few years and NOT ONCE has she failed to mention her vagina, farting, pooing or weeing. Thats not due to editing. Her well rehearsed "ooooooo im batty, me" schtick is all she does now when the cameras are on.

I take your point as I have never seen her in anything else (as herself) I can only judge on what I am seeing in this show. Having said that though if she is 'always' like that it is possible that it is the real her, for better or worse.

I never even knew about this programme and have just spent such an enjoyable couple of hours on iplayer. Absolutely love it. I spent several years living in the Philappines and China and so much resonates. I had maids and drivers, but I tried to make friends with them, paid for them to go on various courses for example, you can make a difference to their lives if you are kind and not condescending. I'm still in contact with them all, God bless the Internet! One thing, I wish Sylvester was featured more, much as I love Miriam.

Yes, she did mention it quite a few times, but I didn't find it irritating, just rather sad. When she said that she was not unhappy (in a rather unconvincing tone,) but that she could definitely do with having her happiness added to, I found that quite a poignant remark.

On the other hand, Margolies and her unshakeable conviction that we all find details of her bodily functions endlessly fascinating, I could well do without.
On the credit side, she was the one to raise the subject of Jan needing to be looked after, so not all bad, I suppose.

I think her partner is an Aussie. I love her and find her very funny, I loved her "old jewish guy" voice.
I have friends who live like kings in Kerala and they report healthcare is excellent there but India is massive and made up of lots of different states which can offer very different levels of service. The link below gives a good comparison and its a real eyeopener in terms of inequality. Those of you who think the class system in the west is nothing like the caste system really need to look at the link, the UK is closer to India than Scandinavia in terms of income inequality

http://www.ifitweremyhome.com/compare/IN/GB

I'm shocked that there are still people who think imperialism was a good deal for those countries who were subjected to it.
