Call me shallow but I thought it was just hilarious the way she kept banding that phrase around while apparently conversing in such a serious manner. It made me laugh out loud!

I notice John said she 'only half pressed it' Yet in the diary room he was complaining that it
should be considered 'cheating'

He did. He was the first to complain the first time she walked out and came back in again later.
