Help with suggestions for songs i can use...

So i have a piece of 8mm home video i have recently converted to digital, but the audio is silent.

I am looking for a piece of music/song to fit this specific video.
The video consists of a local scout group with their scout leaders, along with some kind of royal/mayoral visit. They are christening a new bus (champagne breaking against the side of bus etc) and the bus is covered in union jack flags.

I was thinking it would have to be something that sounded obviously British, and felt old timey as the video was shot in the 1970's. Also it would have to fit around the overall theme of the video.

Any ideas? I have been looking for a couple days now and still have found nothing that i feel fits.

It doesnt have to be royalty free stuff or anything, it can be mainstream, as this is only a private personal project.

Also, is there any kind of resource other than asking on forums that i could use that may help me match music to scenario/setting?

Many thanks

You have to be careful with your choices if you intend to put it on YouTube.
Some copyright owners are very strict about infringements. You can expect that it may be blocked in some countries. Usually Germany. Or worse case, the video could be taken down. Adding a disclaimer doesn't really cut any ice.

What about Rod Stewart Sailing? Or Elton John Philadelphia Freedom?

Both would fit the mood

The obvious one is Magic Bus by the Who.

A bit of Pomp and Circumstance from Elgar - that;s the one that became Land of Hope and Glory.

Something that has that 70s feeling of crap old towns and old men in pubs, like Debris by the Faces , or Ooh La La (the Faces again).

Joy of a Toy by Kevin Ayers always sounded like it should be played at a big parade - try the bit from about 37 seconds in.

I think the trick is to just fade or cut to a little snippet of the song or instrumental that creates the right atmosphere rather than trying to make a whole song last for a whole scene.

This might work the way you've suggested

I don't think either of these quite fit, thanks for the suggestions though.

Inkblot - Magic Bus by the Who, Pomp and Circumstance from Elgar, Debris by the Faces or Ooh La La, Joy of a Toy by Kevin Ayers.
I did think of the magic bus already, but it doesnt seem to fit or seem mellow enough. Elgar is way too intense and heavy. I do like the faces but again, doesnt seem to go.
However i do like Joy of a Toy, and like you mentioned, no i dont need a full track, the video is only around 50 seconds long so it can be from any part of a song using fades.

RikScot - The Kinks-Village Green Preservation Society.
I like the sound of this, the mellow of it fits perfect, i'm just not sure of the lyrics, i will have to listen to it carefully when i get a bit of time later.

Anyway, thanks for the efforts and suggestions so far guys, its really helping.

Yeah...some of it is quite English whimsy but there are references to other places I think
