Would you really be able to "bribe" an expensive private school with a 25k "donation/sponsorship" to a new gym or whatever ? I'd have thought 25k would be peanuts to such a school and certainly not enough to risk their reputation.

What was the point of this bit of the storyline, was it because we all knew Bobby would no way get into such a school by legitimate methods ?

And where is all this money coming from? 30k a year for fees! He said he was going to have to sell the restaurant to raise the 25k so where will the income come for the fees, the fruit and veg stall?????

Ian probably won't have worry about the fees when Bobby gets expelled for trying to cave the skull in of a teacher or another kid.

Spin off show - "The return of Flashman"

I can just see Bobby roasting some small child over the fire,

"Fetch me more muffins you little toad."

Well, he has got his hands on a hockey stick now - much more effective in the "head caving-in" stakes than a measly jewellery box. I was actually surprised that there was no blood on it already in that photo he sent to McBeale.

If I ran a private school and someone gave £25k to help fund a new building and they just so wanted their child to be considered for a place in the school, I don't think think i'd bat an eyelid tbh.

Maybe Lucy's life insurance came in.

It's all ridiculous. It's not just the boarding fees and the donation those school trips are really expensive too. You can pay for them monthly not just in one hit but there's no way Martin will sell enough fruit to cover a hockey tour never mind anything else. It won't last anyway. Someone will "cause trouble" so Bobby will have no choice but to smash their skull in or push them down the stairs resulting in immediate expulsion. He's already way behind academically missing out on prep and year 7 so he's going to struggle and be miserable while eyeing up that hockey stick and thinking who he's going to whack with it.

Schools such as this rely very heavily on reputation and results to attract new pupils (This is proven with state schools with good results and reputations are so heavily oversubscribed) they are very picky who they take, so your child needs brains as well as you need the cash hence why they have to take an exam before they are accepted.

It appears just waving lots of cash for donations to get your dullard child into a posh public school in the real world would get you shown the door.

You would think If he had a spare 25k to give away he might have given some to his son and new grandson to help them get settled in their new life halfway around the world- Or perhaps to his mother who presumably escaped her evil husbands clutches with nothing but but a few belongings to her name. ?

Bobby got into the school on merit. Ian's cash offer was so he would be allowed to start straight away mid term instead of waiting until September.

My daughter goes to private school, although she's only year 1
They're not selective , lots of different backgrounds and abilities

Maybe it's different in seniors
