Paul Kantner, one of the giants of the San Francisco music scene, died Thursday of multiple organ failure. Mr. Kantner, a founding member of the Jefferson Airplane, was 74 and had suffered a heart attack this week.

May he RIP

Awful awful news, and what an awful month this has been.

Went to see JS in Bilston, November 2002. All the way from Falmouth on a coach. Cost me £200 of my student loan. Was well worth it. Right on the stage, less than 2 metres from Paul. Smoked like a chimney throughout the gig, strummed 12-string acoustic electric guitar like a pro..... great talent, such a loss.

Jefferson Airplane were a huge band for me in my formative years. I'm up for work at 6:50 in the morning - but I've just had to listen to Blows Against the Empire again. Of it's era ... but still awesome.

Great man - bless its pointed little head.
