I saw on Google hold down the FN Key and press the F2 Key and the wireless light would come on which it did not then found the following.
Step 1: Access Bluetooth Settings From the Windows desktop, click the Bluetooth icon at the right side of the task bar. You may need to use the Show Hidden Icons arrow to access the Bluetooth icon. Click Show Bluetooth Devices, PC and Devices, and then Bluetooth. But there is no Bluetooth icon on the task bar and all the icons are visible no access to hidden icons.

I just went into devices and printers and clicked add a device and it now says make sure your device is discoverable by device do they mean the dongle or the device I want to pair with the laptop I suspect it is the latter is that correct

I've used a bluetooth keyboard with my desktop PC in the past.
I think I inserted the dongle into a USB port, waited for the driver to install (automatically).
Then I turned on the keyboard and a box popped up asking if I wanted to connect.

I might have had to make the PC 'discoverable', but can't remember having to go into 'Printers and devices' to do that?

Mind you, it was a while ago on Windows 8, so my memory might be faulty.

The following is what I have done apologies for it being so long.I have two bluetooth dongles and when I installed the first one it does not open it shows in all programs but when I click on it it will not open so uninstalled it and installed the other dongle and that opens ok. when I try and pair my phone with the laptop the laptop appears on the phone but when I try and pair them it asks for the laptops 4 digit pin number and when I click on find device on laptop it asks for device name and not sure what to put on there. On the packages of the dongles windows 7 is not listed but all other versions of windows are.Could that be a problem maybe I need a dongle compatible with windows 7.I bought these dongles when I was using XP

It sounds like your second device might have worked, but getting an up to date one won't do any harm.

Pairing headphones should just be a case of turning the headphones on, and perhaps pressing a pairing (or connect) button if they have one. No codes will be needed.

I thought this was the first pairing I have done between the laptop and the phone so will not have a pairing pin number.I thought I would be given a pairing number when I added a new device and then when I tried to pair with the phone I would enter that number so do not understand what I have done wrong. Both units phone and laptop are in discoverable mode. The laptop is listed in bluetooth on the phone just need the pairing pin number.

Back to basics: What are you trying to achieve? File transfer between a phone and PC?

And did you get your headphones working?
I thought that's what you were trying to do originally?

No have not sorted the headphone problem changed my phone in October and went to Tesco Mobile and the headphones were a freebie with the phone. When they did not arrive phoned Tesco and they sent a replacement and then the original arrived so had two pairs so gave one to my wife. and her's is fine.Emailed the makers they asked for some photos which I sent and he following is their reply.

Thank you for the pictures, I can confirm these are Silver Label BSH560 Bluetooth Headphones

These were manufactured solely for Tesco Mobile promotion which ran December 2014. Unfortunately we do not hold any stock and these are now out of warranty.

I was also trying to pair these with the laptop which is where the problem started.Am now getting a new pair of headphones.Have also ordered a new Bluetooth dongle to try and pair the phone. It appears the two dongles I have are not compatible with Windows 7
Hopefully that will solve the problem
Thank's for all the replies much appreciated and will let you know how I get on.

I contacted Asus yesterday asking if Bluetooth was installed on my laptop and the following is their reply.

Looking upon the general specs of the K73E it has a integrated Bluetooth card in it.

So is stopping me from pairing it with my phone
And if that is true then I do not need my Bluetooth dongle.

To do what: stream audio, move photos, make calls, share a data connection?

Bluetooth devices have different profiles, allowing you to only perform certain functions. If you are trying to make a device perform a function it doesn't have a profile for, it won't work.
