I've heard 10+ years. Is this true in other peoples experience?

It depends on how healthy they are, how well their kept and just pure luck. Yes some can live 10+ years, but not in my experience. My cousin's lived to around 7/8 and mine to 5 (died naturally), 6 (died naturally , 4 ( died during surgery), 2 (died naturally), 18 months (illness PTS) and 5 (died in an accident, she may well have lived longer). Like anything else living, they come with no guarantees, but on average they should see out about 6-8 years barring accidents and illness. I wasn't very lucky with mine.

Ah now, after all the years I had rabbits, I found if they have a companion, which they need, get plenty of time out of a hutch (I had an escape proof garden so the hutch door was always open) they live longer than the poor souls locked up alone in a small hutch. Apart from the obvious good diet, and vaccinations, quality of life makes a big difference.

My Olly lived for just over 10 years, the rest 7-8 years. An un spayed female will die prematurely.
