So a man strikes a pose, and suddenly that's somehow conclusive evidence that he is in line for the doctor role.

Come on people. We've been through this before, we all know how it goes. When Capaldi stepping down is announced (which could be as early as 2017 or years later) then the internet, including this forum, goes into meltdown suggesting the possibility of everyone from hollywood actors to 'that guy I saw in that thing once that sort of had a doctorish look about him'

Then after all is said and done, it tends to turn out that they've either gone for someone who is relatively unknown (like Tennant and Smith) or someone who wasn't one of any of the names people were guessing.

It's always the way.

I'd love him as The Doctor but it seems that they're basing this off just him striking a pose of him pointing?

Lol one more post before I reach 1k

I seriously hope not, he's just not Doctor material and it comes across to me it'd just be pandering to the teenage girl demographic. Just keep Peter Capaldi on, he was born for the role.

You really despise young Doctors don't you isn't that ageism in itself?

If you obscure your face when doing the pointy pose, you're automatically ruled out of playing The Doctor, I'm afraid.

We have one of the best Doctors ever at the moment, why think of who will replace him, he will be around for a few years yet, he was born for the role, Aiden? nah to cutesy and now he is such a well known Cap'n Ross, it wouldnt work.

Very funny, Mr. Turner! A few years ago, I went to a fantastic production of The Hobbit at The Palace Theatre in Manchester and he was playing Bilbo. During the interval, I nipped out for a fag and he was there having one himself. This allowed me to tick 'Have a smoke with a hobbit' off my fantasy/sci-fi bucket list.

Maybe I'm in denial but I really don't want Peter Capaldi to go with Moffat
He's too good to be replaced for at least for two series. I don't want to speculate until the man himself confirms it

I hope so. It's about time we had an attractive male on the show.

Didn't you know? Like every other show in the word now Doctor Who only has to be there to cater to 14 year old swooning teenage girls... to hell with masterful character actors like Peter Capaldi or wise old men characters altogether. Nowadays they're all seen as creepy or noncey... its sad...

Never been won over by Turner; in Being Human or otherwise I'm afraid. So I wouldn't be thrilled to be honest. But it'd be a step above Richard Madden frankly, who I've also heard bandied about...

I really don't want to lose Capaldi. He's the best actor the show's ever had and they keep wasting him. That speech in Zygon; his performance in Heaven Sent, his work opposite Davros; powerful stuff. Truly the Doctor at ever turn.

Not sure on what you base this. He played an immortal very well in Being Human before he went anywhere near Poldark.

Having said that , it's nonsense to be speculating now on a potential replacement in 2 years time. Aiden could be big in Hollywood by then.

And like others, I'd like to see Capaldi with a different show runner before we let him go.

To those saying 'just keep Capaldi', you all know he'll be going one day. I do think it's a bit inappropriate for the media to start speculating on 'the next doctor' just on the basis that they are assuming he is leaving after series 10, when actually it may not be the case at all, but at the same time, there will actually be a time, be it sooner or later, when he leaves.

Shouldn't really need pointing out to people on here that it's part of the nature of the show.

Also, on the subject of Aidan Turner, never watched Poldark and have no intention of doing so, seeing that he seems to only be popular in that on the basis of the fact he takes his top off, but I have a lot of respect for his acting skills from his time on being human. Doesn't exactly feel a natural fit for the doctor though. A bit to 'macho' I think.

Because the BBC are thinking about having a new Doctor with the new showrunner.

Capaldi might be the best doctor in some people's opinion I don't know why they state it as fact, for me Nine is the best doctor ever.

Haha. Do you think Coleman was 'the best available'?

If they can cast the companion based primarily on their looks [Coleman would never have got the part if she were old and/or ugly] then it's time they did it with the Doctor too.

He hardly came across as Doctor material to me then either.

Yeah, I like the Doctor as the Father Christmas/Wizard of Oz/C.S. Lewis type character but if they cast another sexy, younger man in the role the show's going to stuck in that restriction for good.

That's what the male companion used to be for, to play the younger and more physical hero where the Doctor wasn't, and it's safe to say most of them were popular with the ladies. I don't think it's a coincidence the way the camera often squeezed in Peter Purves' tightly clad arse cheeks.

Eh? "Another"? How many have there been??

Tennant, at a big push. Um...and that's it. Matt Smith might've been popular with lovers of geek-chic but nowhere near mainstream attractive. Who else? Eccleston? No. Capaldi. Obviously no. Sylvestor McCoy??

People seem to fixate on Tennant when claiming that all the Doctors have been young and sexy. They haven't. Not by a long shot.

Not since the 1960s. It's basically Jamie or nothing.
