Always thought Tennant looked ferrety. Think it was more that they wrote romantic liaisons with Rose that got the teen hearts throbbing.

And on young Doctors I always liked Peter Davisons more vulnerable Doctor.

Yeah I'm seeing this too, So its ok to generalise all young Doctors as them just being a bit of Zac Effron eye-candy yet its not ok to point out that Capaldi is older or criticise any aspect of his Doctor without being branded "ageist" and a teenage 14 year old girl?

I have no problems with Capaldi personally but shouldn't it be a two way street as in take your own advice and not be ageist against younger Doctors, the same thing you preach about not being ageist against a older Doctor and judge him by his looks. Kinda Hypocritical to me :/

Also even if someone dosen't care that Capaldi is The Doctor and criticizes Moffat and his writing he has a habbit of instantly assuming he can read minds and that person is ageist when they mention nothing about Capaldi.

Due to Timey Wimey effects that the Doctor quite often sees his face before he regenerates then I think the next doctor is Samuel Anderson, aka Danny Pink.

But I would like Colin Morgan from Merlin and The Fall myself.

To follow on from Capaldi they need another older actor, I think Richard E Grant would be good, he's played the role in Children in Need Charity spoofs, as has Rowan Atkinson, who could also be good in the role properly I reckon.

Much as I like seeing gorgeous young men take their tops off (or indeed bottoms where appropriate) there was much more than that to Aidan's acting as Ross Poldark. I found the fact that some people fixated on that very annoying.

Personally, though I could watch Aidan Turner in anything (loved him in Being Human), I hope Poldark goes on for many years and he hasn't got time for Doctor Who. But then I've been a fan of the Poldark stories for only slightly fewer years than I've been a fan of DW.

Like I said, I haven't watched Poldark personally, all I know of it is that anytime it's being talked about on tv, they always seem to reference a particular scene where he takes his top off. As I said though, he was excellent in being human, so while I'll probably never watch poldark as i'm not generally a period drama sort of person, I can definitely believe from what I have seen of him that his acting is as much of a draw for some people as his looks are for others.

I believe the real story behind the poster in question is that they want it to constantly be a string of older actors, and so use the tactic of diminishing anyone's views who think that either it should be someone younger, or that it simply doesn't matter about the doctors age, as though somehow that sort of attitude will make people agree.

I personally couldn't care less about the age of the next doctor, I just want the right man for the job. People insisting it needs to be Capaldi forever or another older actor, and that anyone who doesn't agree is just a brainless teenage girl looking for eye candy are just making themselves look foolish, when so many people keep pointing out that there are so many other factors involved, and that said poster, cannot in fact read minds as they seem to think.

I don't mind the doctor been played by a younger bloke but I don't want them introducing a love interest into it again.

Coleman was a brilliant actress, and fit the role Moffat was looking for. But yes she probably had to be attractive, but she wouldn't have gotten the job if her acting ability was poor. Stop being so superficial.

Age shouldn't matter, all that matters is the BEST available person for the job. That said i would like a mix, not just older older older, or young young young. Mix it up i say.

I definitely got the impression the show was being made with the US market in mind. They generally like romance in shows. Hence all the companions fell in love with Tennant and we had River song forever dogging his tracks. If we had someone as gorgeous as Aidan then everyone would fall for him (male and female) as Dr Who is in to diversity. I find Peter too intense. When Davros said he looked like him he was right. I think he is too scary for young kids. I loved as a kid Patrick Troughton and Jaime. It is time we had a male companion. The males we have had have all been chasing after girls who are chasing after the doctor.

I very much agree with the article; romance and the Doctor just don't go together and RTD should never have started the trend with that ugly Ten/Rose relationship, as well as the other women he kissed, and neither should Moffat have continued it with that creepy scene in Amy's bedroom and Victorian Clara snogging him. I'm glad the sexualisation of him has been drastically toned down with Capaldi.

(Well, the TV Movie started it really, but RTD really drove in the hornier side of the Doctor)

Agreed, Romance and The Doctor definitely don't work, just because they are younger/attractive doesn't mean it should be a romantic relationship. The 5th Doctor had it right, it was more a wiser older brother relationship, than romantic and this is the direction they should take if it is someone younger.

Like the article said, it detracts from the mysterious and alien aspect of the character and in my opinion that just makes him far less intruiging. I've always thought he was more of a symbolic figure than a character, much like Gandalf or Aslan, but without the god-like powers.

It always bugged me with McGann's Doctor, because despite being a little more on the youthful side, he could really capture a mysterious aura to his character, whether it was McGann playing him or the character written in prose. And yet, everytime they made him fall in love or snog someone (even further, if The Dying Days is to be believed) it completely stole away that feeling and felt rather forced.

Likewise, I applaud Smith for being able to act like an old man trapped in a young man's body, and in my opinion he was a big improvement over Tennant's Doctor as he captured that alien side to the character, but everytime they started the sexual tension that whole side to him just vanished.

I probably just sound like a grumpy old man going "ew, kissing" (I'm actually 20) but the romantic and sexual side of the character is one I just don't care for.

It's not even a rumour ! It's a photograph, FGS, that someone in the RT has created a showbiz puff piece around with an extremely tenuous Who link. There's absolutely no substance to or suggestion in the article that it has anything whatsoever to do with anything Who related. <rolls eyes>

Oops, I didn't mean to disappoint anyone by suggesting it might not (almost certainly won't) be Aiden Turner. Just didn't want anyone to get their hopes up.

Instead of the rubbish school spin off they should've done a series with either 8 or the War Doctor.

I didn't know you could see the future and know its already gonna be rubbish? Although I do agree I would've prefered if there was one with 8 but I couldn't care less about The War Doctor.

I think you can break it down to whom it won't be ....

Capaldi: I think he's going to leave with Moffat and that Chibnall's era will start with a brand new Doctor.
Any Former Doctor Actor: Sorry McGann/Tennant obsessives, but it won't obviously be them.
Any Actress: Because I really do think the BBC aren't going to risk a female Doctor, especially with a new showrunner.

Basically, it'll be a 30 something male actor.
