Only DVDs come in + or - flavours. All CD recordable media use the same format, be that for write once or re-writtable.
Talking of which. I've had few problems using write once (CDR) disks in the car but re-writtable (CDRW) can be a problem. For maximum compatibility it is probably best to use CDR disks only.
I've got a (oldish) Kenwood CD in the car and that plays CDR's without too many problems. It does tend to throw a wobbly however with RWs.
The other thing I've noticed is the recording speed can be critical as to whether the disks are playable or not. I found that I had to record at less than half the quoted max speed for the disks to get reliable results. Even though data disks recorded perfectly at full speed.
The only other thing you have to worry about is fingerprints on the disk!

Recordable CD's are very much less reflective than pre-recorded disks so they tend to be far more critical of dirt on the surface of the disk.
