I need some help

My equipment
New Samsung UE40H6400
Huma HDR Fox T2 PVR (Freeview, I’ve had it now for at least six years)

My Samsung is connected to the internet and the Humax power is on.

I’m trying to connect the Samsung IR extender to the Humax so I can control the Humax with the Samsung remote control. I want to be able to view and make recordings on a regular basis and continue to record series that I’ve already set up and of course play back. I also want to hide the Humax in a cupboard below the television.

After connecting the IR cable to the TV’s IR out slot and placing the other end within two inches of the Humax and connecting a HDMI cable to the HDMI in 1 (STB) and the other end to my Humax . I go Source and select Universal remote setup.

The TV confirms that the IR extender cable is connected and from the three choices that I’m offered; set-top box; blu-ray player and Home Theatre System. I select set-top box. I’m now taken through the setup

The first step is to select Humax as my Set-top box provider and confirming that the the TV input source is HDMI1. This is where my problems start

When I work my way through to the Set-top box Control Test all I see in the small screen is the message: ‘the receiver is not receiving a signal or the signal is to weak.’ If I move the channel up or down it clearly shows me where I’m at e.g BBC 1, ITV, Drama and so on. I can even see the Humax clock moving up and down the small screen, but I keep getting the same message: ‘signal to weak.’

I have tried moving it along the front of the Humax just in case I was missing the where the Humax sensor was but hat didn't help

Any suggestions as what to do next

Lots of questions:
When you say 'the small screen' is the Humax display showin in a 'picture in picture' window?
What 'signal' does it mean? Is it the signal from the aerial to the Humax, or the IR signal from the remote?

The IR signal to the Humax

The setup is this
Aerial direct into TV
IR extender cord from TV to front of Humax box
HDMI cable from TV to Humax box

Errr, have you missed the aerial connection to the Humax from your post or do you really have no aerial plugged into it? If you don't have an aerial then the No Signal message is not the IR extender but the Humax telling you it has no Freeview signal.

Appreciate for what you are saying and thanks for replying.

I'm of the impression that you don't have to have an aerial input into the Set Top Box, that the idea is that the IR extender carries the signal from the TV to the Humax. But I'll give it a try to see what happens

Don't know where you got that idea but it's wrong. Both the TV and the Humax need their own aerial inputs if you want to use Freeview on them independently. IR is simply IR control signals - That it. Nothing more. Zip. Nada.

The IR extender simply carries infra red remote control signals from the TV to the Humax. It is no different in principle to pointing the Humax's own remote control at the front of the unit and pressing the buttons on it.

The Freeview signals are only ever carried by an aerial connection, there is no way to feed them to the Humax by any other means.
