Brian Williams

In Dinosaurs on a spaceship and the Power of Three, a character was introduced. Rory's dad, the on who golfs and is into gardening. He asked what happened to the companions who were left behind and the doctor told only a few died. Amy and Rory then died in the next episode. Apart from the not filmed P.S. (which might not be cannon) it is unknown if he knows the fate of his child and daughter in law.

As Chinball wrote both of his episodes maybe a return could happen. He was a bubbly, fun and strange character who would fit on the TARDIS with Capalidi( or another doctor) and another companion.

As I really liked Brian, a return( even for Christmas) would be welcomed from me.

Also the amazing Mark Williams played him.

As fun as he was, unfortunately I can't see him returning as he is only a side character to Amy and Rory and has zero relevance now they are gone.

Its a bit like wondering whether Martha's mother will make a comeback - or her twice only seen brother played by Reggie Yates (shudder - please no!)

It would be fun to see the likes of Jackie Tyler but the show has long since moved on from then.

Mark Williams maybe, but not Brian.

No, Amy and Rory have left the show, he is not returning. Honestly some people need to look into the future instead of the past.

If Chibbers wanted to do a story where the Doctor met Brian again and so had to face the consequences of failing his promise. If he wanted to take DW anywhere near that level of dramatic consequence (with which SM has also been playing), I could see it happening.

But it's a big "if".

The problem is that I think within perspective, his role was simply to create something of emotional resonance for the Ponds - because it was realised that the characters were leaving and they'd had an insufficient amount of backstory and so nobody to really care about their circumstances. When Rose went around the universe, we saw how scared Jackie was for her, and because it was competently written she was fleshed out and made a tragically lonely, but committed and strong character. I love Jackie Tyler. She no longer has any relevance to the show though and so I have to accept that that good thing has past, and I have to hope for new good things.

Mark Williams is a brilliant actor, and brought a lot of life to a role that for me wasn't particularly good. I can't hold Chibnall responsible because frankly nobody could write a Jackie Tyler in just two relatively standalone episodes. He felt so shoehorned in at the last minute that if it wasn't for the actor involved I'd have not enjoyed the character at all really. More to the point though, like Jackie Tyler, like or not the show has moved on. We've just had a Christmas special with a Pond fulfilling the companion role again... it was a nice epilogue to the family story. But the show needs to look forward, invent new characters that are worth loving in the moment, rather than longing for the loves of long ago.

Do you think River ever visited Brian and tried to explain that she was his Granddaughter ?
