have to say this is the first caucus I've watched live and it's pretty gripping... but this is just ONE state.... the USA must have some stamina to keep going until the actual election!
First time I've watched too, and I agree it's fascinating. Can't believe this will go on all through this year . . To think we just have one night where we watch and wait for the results in the UK General Election

think this shows the weaknesses in clinton

on paper sanders shouldn't be competitive , he is 74 years old and openly describes himself as a socialist in a country where that term still has major negative connotations

Big night for Cruz and Rubio. Disaster for Trump.
It's the same issue I suspect with polls in US as we had in UK. Gobby folks distorting.

So what has happened?
Has the Republican race become a three way race? Cruz and Rubio have a better on the ground organisation. Mistake for Trump not appearing on national tv republican debate?

Democrats a two way race?

The Democrat nomination has been a two-way race for some time now.

Don't you mean Rubio - Cruz hasnt spoken yet has he?

You might want to get used to this guy - he may be a regular on your tv for at least the next five years.

I'm probably thick but why was Marco Rubio making what sounded like a victory speech when he came third?

Because he's delusional.

Sanders just 0.2% behind. It's nail-biting stuff!

because these early states are all about momentum and he is the one that is really exceeding expectations tonight and the most likely to benefit as the field thins out

Perhaps they should recaucus. By the age of some of the Clinton supporters I saw earlier Sanders may actually be ahead amongst caucus goers who are still alive!

Rubio was not expected to come in with such a high vote in Iowa. He was only on something like 15% in polls. Massively over performed with 23%. Trump massively under performed. He was supposed to win with 31% and only got 24%. It's the gobby supporters distorting polls again. Rubio has now established himself as the establishment candidate so as others drop out he should pick up their votes.

Sorry. Yes I meant Rubio. I am also thinking maybe these after election speeches have to be vacuous / generalities. It is in the debates and pre-election speeches that they have to be of substance.

It costs insane amounts of money to become President. By establishing himself as the establishment candidate, Rubio can expect the big donors to get behind him now.

Apparently Hilary is waiting in her hotel room.

Not sure where Bill is - interviewing one of the new interns possibly?

So does that mean Jeb Bush is out? I thought he was one of those tipped for success early on.

we'll probably see alot of sucking up from rubio, cruz and trump to the other candidates as they start to drop out , like we saw from both rubio and trump towards huckabee who has already announced he is suspending his campaign, as they hope to gain their supporters

Ah okay. Thanks for the explanation.

Are US polls usually pretty accurate though?

After our last General Election, I just don't believe in polls any more.

in all practical terms he is , he's polling at just 3% tonight and really nothing to assume that is going to change going forward to the next batch of states
