Hi

3 weeks ago I adopted a 2 and a half year old yorkiepoo called Pepsi. She is beautiful and usually very well behaved. We also have Jasper who is 4 and a half year old cat. Jasper while initially was a bit put out by Pepsi moving in, he adjusted well and generally ignores Pepsi.

My problem is that twice in 2 days, pepsi has gone at Jasper for no reason at all, she's been very angrily barking at him. To give the cat credit he's only retaliated once she's touched him.

They are not left alone unsupervised, and when we go out they are separated.

Is this a normal part of the settling I process? When it's happened we have just separated them and the cat goes where the dog can't get and the dog goes to find her ball.

I'm really desperate to not loose Jasper and I know how fickle cats can be but we lost our beautiful Harley cat in November (he passed away) and I'd be devestated if Jasper moved out.

I should add that Pepsi's former owner is a friend albeit not a close one, and she's been raised from a pup with cats.

If Pepsi has never been around cats before it can be quite an adjustment. She'll know about it when Jasper gives her a good scratch on the end of the nose.

Cats and dogs usually settle down within the first couple of months so it could just be the adjustment period.

Thank you, we think we have found what is setting her off, she's being protective of her toys, we noticed she did it when Jasper gets to close to her toybox or her treat that she's hidden.
