Comparing to Uncharted in the broader sense of semi-open world action adventure I could do, but no, I didnt feel like I was playing uncharted whilst playing this.

2 very different characters, and if we're comparing this to Uncharted 4, then we also have a fresher feeling game as I thought U4's pace was dragged right down with to much climbing with no real purpose.
I agree. I did like Uncharted 4, but I really liked this. After finishing the main story, I still have lots to do and I am happily going back to mop up the challenges and such.

Anyone who finished not feel It copied lot of uncharted ? I just could not get rid feeling I was playing rehashed uncharted for some reason. Parts of story, certain enemy types (specifically near the end)

The other problem had was the side missions, It felt like such chore to actually finish the sides missions, finding who gave you the mission in first place I mean.

For me It was not as great as first, the side mission ruined the pace of the game, and had no real purpose,It should had more varied amount of locations, the story is highly predictable.
I didn't have any problems with the side missions, the locations you need to go to to complete them and the mission giver when you need to return are always marked on the map.

I didn't really get too many Uncharted vibes from this either, they have scaled back the Uncharted style set pieces this time round and it does enough things different to feel like it's own game rather than an imitation.

After eventually getting over my irrational dislike of the camera, i've found the game much more enjoyable, something like that can really drag a game down but I've got used to it. There is a lot to like about it and i'm enjoying my time with it, I do really like the climbing in this game, it's almost challenging, they at least seem to trust the player to learn multiple mechanics and it combines them well. Uncharted held that back until the very end and even then it was comparatively simple. It's just fun to be in this world and exlpore tombs (my favourite part).

On the negative side, the story is just.... not good and it takes itself so seriously, it's relentlessly dour, which is fine in a 2 hour movie but not so much throughout hours of gameplay. Were we supposed to care that
Spoiler
it was a melodramatic scene and I was rolling my eyes throughout. I don't really like Lara as a character this time round either, to be blunt she is boring. I feel like I should care about her father and how this is driving Lara, but I just don't. And her vague plans for the
Spoiler
are just irritating, particularly when an NPC is telling her the exact reasons why she is wrong and she just ignores it.

So for me it's a game of 2 halves, fun gameplay, not so fun everything else. I'd probably say 8/10 overall.

Haven't played the game yet but I think the reason why the game comes across as dire is because they don't have Lara enjoy herself like she used to in the old games because they're going for the grimdark feel. Nathan Drake has basically taken Lara's personality and because the devs didn't want to be seen as an Uncharted knockoff (ironic, isn't it since it's the other way round) they had to go a completely different direction tonally.

I can see that being a consideration, they are going for something grittier than Uncharted. Drake wouldn't fit in this world or story, he's in love with adventure and can't help getting caught up in them, he does have big issues with his past and an obsession with Francis Drake. Uncharted deals with some interesting themes, mostly family, friendships and how they can suffer through his obsession. But there is still levity throughout.

In a way Lara is probably more realistic, you'll see in the story that there really isn't much for her to be laughing about. But there were opportunities the writers chose not to take
Spoiler
it all fits tonally, it just makes it hard to muster much reaction when it's a bit one note. I think i'd like Lara to be more sassy rather than offering quippy one liners. I'm hoping that as the games progress, they gradually reintroduce that aspect of her character.

Amazon's delivery service is getting worse. Latest crime includes leaving my Rise of the Tomb Raider package in the hands of my lunatic neighbour (literally mentally insane) when I gave specific instructions to post it through my box or put it in my cupboards by my front door. Of course it's no surprise that I have not been able to retrieve it. They're sending me a replacement. Rant over.

I think some people miss the point that this is her origin story, she hasn't learnt how to enjoy tomb raiding yet, I think eventually we will get to see a Lara as everyone knows her.

But to be honest I was never really fan of The Tomb Raider games, I really like the more grittier rebooted version.

I thought the previous game was supposed to be her origin (I haven't played this one yet).

It is, but this continues Lara's journey to becoming the character we all know.

I loved the last installment of TR. How does Rise stand against it?

She hasn't really changed since the end of the last one, but it is a personal story for her so a continuation of her origin, I do expect some changes next time though.

I still can't believe

Does this support HDR on the new PlayStation 4? I got my console with this and Dishonoured 2 today but have only tried some Tomb Raider. I tried the different picture modes on offer but I never got a notification to say HDR was active like I have done with things viewed on Amazon Prime

As good in my opinion, if you loved the 2013 TR reboot I don't see any reason you wont enjoy Rise. It's more of the same basically but with a bit more ambition.

I started playing this last night and have reached the pint I got to on the Xbox One. I've noticed that I've been collecting points to spend on cards or something. Can't remember seeing these in the Xbox. Where do you use them about?

you spend the points when you reach a fire, these points upgrade wide selection of different things.

They (cards) are modifiers for the challenge mode, the coins (with 2xx's on them) are used for weapon mods.

Anybody with the new PS4 version tried any of the DLC yet? I enjoyed the 2 part Croft Manor. It's nice to just explore and solve puzzles in Blood Ties without the pressure of combat but there's also the frantic Lara's Nightmare if you just want some action instead. I liked Cold Darkness too, a nice mix of puzzle solving and combat. Tried a bit of Endurance as well, which offers something a bit different and is quite tough with the constant need to find food and warmth or it's game over.

I don't think they will try that strategy again, they chose a very bad release date as well so the game got buried. It makes you wonder why they bothered with exclusivity, only to release it the same day as Fallout.

I'm not sure how well it has sold overall, I hope it has sold better than it did on XBox One last year.

I mean I don't mind timed exclusive for DLC or extra levels, but that was a really stupid move on the developers front. Microsoft didn't mind. they had bragging rights and a roster of other games, but this was the developers huge tent pole. I do hope they have learned their lesson

Well it depends on how much MS paid them, if it's a lot than I doubt they see it as a mistake.

I don't like timed exclusivity on anything, DLC is the worst.
