I played the blood ties DLC and wow the voice actress actually gives Lara a familiar sense of humour although she now has this annoying thing where she doesn't talk with her mouth fully open.

Loving some of the gun battles.

Moments feeling like Uncharted fighting in the snow priming and hiding behind crates in the snow. As well as the chopper chases as she falls into the water from a great height. Big big grin.

Oh and how lovely is Lara's hair always flowing. Cannot wait to get the compound bow.

Finally back with my first girl crush. Lara must have a life time supply of bio-oil given the hell she went through in the reboot... Enjoyed the opening sequences, will probably blast through most of the combat stuff quickly to get to my favourite bits, the actual tomb raiding and puzzling and my OCD obsession to have to collect everything!

One gripe though. She's just been attacked at home and knows full well there's essentially an armed militia after this artefact... so naturally the best idea is to follow them to Siberia armed with just the clothes you're standing in and an ice axe! You'd think she'd have learned her lesson after last time and be more the badass Lara we know.

Also I'm guessing Sam wisely decided she didn't fancy another suicide mission.

If you don't post on the tennis thread for a while, I will know where you are. There is a staggering amount of things to collect in this, i'll see how your getting on in January lol.

My random gripe is the fact that every single NPC is at least a foot taller than Lara, she must be 5 ft nothing.

She is so sexy as well as cute sexy. Plus so bad ass. Such a warrior.

Loving all the firefights I'm getting into as she kills them all.

What difficulty are you on? I cannot remember what I picked or to see what I'm on.

Just on what it was at the start. I don't have the patience for Survivor/Crushing modes etc. I'd rather enjoy the game at my own pace, stress free!

Is survivor/crushing the only two modes above default normal mode? Think I picked survivor.

In normal does Lara recover quicker? As I've been in a lot if moments where she doesn't recover or right on the edge of death where the screen is black and white. Have to heal myself if I haven't ran out?

Crushing was just a reference to the impossible difficulty mode on Uncharted. There's two modes above normal, there's Seasoned Raider and the Survivor mode. Yeah she does, for Seasoned Raider and Survivor health regen is limited or in the case of Survivor, not available at all.

Had a dunce moment when fighting the bear. 'Why isn't it dying?, I've wasted all my health kits being slapped by this bear... oh I'm trying to kill it with normal arrows instead of activating the poison arrows!'

Heh, the bear was intense as I peaked around the left corner. Run forrest run!

Personally I hated and feared the wolves the most since I hadn't a great deal of levelling up skill points. Came across another bigger beast than the wolves.

Oh this is worse. Just looked... 3 modes above normal. Seasoned Raider, Survivor, Extreme Survivor. Extreme survivor only saved checkpoints at campsites. I must be one down then.

Horrible thought that. Imagine getting through lots of intense battles and you create a stupid mistake having to redo the whole section until you reach the next campsite.

It is like Uncharted 4 chapter 13 Marooned on a nightmare mode for every level.

Extreme Survivor difficulty limits the player’s save points by only letting them save at campsites. This means that if the player dies, they will be returned to their previous campfire save. A lot can happen in the time between those saves as I’ve already found out. So playing on this difficulty knowing that one wrong step could send the player all the way back to their previous save places an incredible amount of stress on them. Players really need to make sure they are well aware of their surroundings at all times.

Damn! How engrossed you can become in this game. The amount of hours spent in side missions in one huge area, relics and all the stuff, coins, scrolls, tombs/hidden tombs as well as hunting rare animals for missions. Let alone the scenery and wicked upgrades. The stealth combat and even the gung ho combat

This game is so awesome. 63% completed in the story so far.

Plus Lara is all stealth combat kitted out. Real bad ass.

So I finally finished Rise of the Tomb Raider, and this game is just.....dumb. Like, really really dumb.

I went into the first couple of hours absolutely loving it as well. I escaped from the Gulag with Jacob and was prepared to declare it my 2nd favourite game of the year. But then I just got incredibly bored, incredibly quickly. The story just wasn't interesting enough to be fully engaged with.

Spoiler

Beyond all of that, the game was buggy as ****, and the climbing mechanics needed a lot more polish and refinement. It was too easy to want Lara to quick shimmy to the left only for her to fling herself off the cliff face to her unnecessary death. It's still a solid 7/10 kind of game, the shooting mechanics are extremely tidy, and the environments are beautifully detailed, but the negatives have left me feeling rather underwhelmed and disappointed. This comes nowhere close to Uncharted.

Haven't played much of the main story yet (though the part I've played could easily have been Uncharted with a different skin - finding ancient city, ruins falling apart as you jump across them, finding the spot you went there for only for the thing you were after not to be there but bad guys turn up and you have to make a dramatic escape)

The Endurance mode on coop is pretty tough though. I spent a couple hours on that. Lara ate a bear. Literally killed a bear and ate it and was close to death with hunger again within around 6 minutes. I dunno how she keeps the pounds off unless she's secretely vomitting it back up when I'm not looking.

It's a fun mode but it would be better if she didn't need to wipe out the animial population so quickly.

That's Lara just going back to her roots.

There is another repeat of that. Feels like a dead ringer of Uncharted 2.

Finished it 100%. Those deathless chaps were a pain in the arse, especially in close combat!

Whats your view of it now comparing to Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered?

I've still to progress from the last camp fire for the finale but I'm engrossed in The Last of Us Remastered for now.

I reckon The Last of Us Remastered tops them all.

UC4 is for Christmas so I don't know yet. Story wise TLOU is pretty unbeatable, but for gameplay Tomb Raider and Uncharted is what I enjoy more, because those clickers scared the living daylights out of me.

I did give up on The Last of Us Remastered for a while as I was playing my first playthrough on Hard. Got it last Christmas then never picked it up again until a few weeks ago as I kept getting killed on the first heavy scene with clickers and runners in a square room. Intense ending.

The firefly soldiers I thought were the hardest but I feared the runners and the stalkers the most. Once a runner spotted you, messy or game over same for the stalkers. Looking forward to replaying it on Survivor and Grounded plus.

Tomb Raider has been fun so far but there is no immersed soul sucking story like the Naughty Dog games.

PLEASE tell me they have shafted Rihanna Pratchett for SHADOW of The TOMB RAIDER

I really thought the story in ROTTR was pitiful... just so obvious & plain dumb.

If Atlas is the baddie in SOTTR I'll die, R.I.P me... dead

Everything else is great, but story and writing are hurting this series

Yeah, I never got drawn in except for the fighting and stealth. Apart from that it felt empty.

I played the 2013 one and was impressed how they combined a lot of styles of gameplay. The upgrades were ok but I felt they could have been a bit more in depth, or more variety in weapons. My only other gripe was I felt the game took control a bit too often when I didn't expect it, the game kind of makes up with it when you get to explore large hubs of the game uninterrupted. Anyway am playing this one now and its more of the same, high quality stuff. Familiar styles of gameplay but done so well. with the obsession with open world games I really am liking the hub format and being able to go back to do stuff.
